My g-g-Grandfather George Washington Robinson had settled in the area after the Civil War. His second-hand store is advertized in this paper. His son Etheral's November 4, 1899, letter home from Lacalota, P.I., where he saw action during the war, is also published. There are local happenings, old fashioned jokes and national news published. Several local names are mentioned. I would like to scan this paper as it is in a fragile condition. Some of the local happenings mentioned: Dr. Forney made a professional call in Scammon New Year's Day; Chris Beck was a passenger to Pittsburg Monday; B.F. Bird is some better this week; Miss Rebecca Baxter of Franklin County was thrown from a buggy and killed. Advertisements also contain names: Miss Julia Kelly, Dressmaker; E.A. Perry, Attorney-at-Law; Dr. Walker, Dentist; J.A. Mertz, Butcher; A. Whitney, City Transfer/Drayman; etc. Please contact me if anyone is interested in this bit of history.
