    3. To add an extra note - I have done research at all the below mentioned library locations and have found the volunteer staff very helpful! I called and had some research done in advance and paid when I got there - it was a great time saver. Message Board Post: I don't have answers to all of your questions, but I can answer some of them. There are 3 places that you should look for records on your family. 1) Pittsburg Genealogy Library. It is part of the public library, but last I recall had different hours than the library in general. The following site has information on the library: http://sites.google.com/site/pplblogger/home 2) The library in Girard, Kansas. They have a genealogy room that I believe is open general library hours. Their website is: http://www.girardpubliclibrary.net/innerPages/genealogy.html 3) The court house in Girard, Kansas. It is on the main square in town and you can't miss it. In addition, you may also want to check out the genealogy society in Ft. Scott, KS. It is in a different county, but they have quite a few resources for the area. If you had any family in the northern part of Crawford Co, you definitely want to check it out. At the libraries, you can copy most documents for a per page fee. The most expensive tends to be copies from microfilm. For records at the courthouse, I would expect them to be more expensive, but I don't have the details for Girard. I have found records there back into the 1870's, but not everything is documented (e.g. births). Also, if you know any possible dates, the libraries have old copies of newspapers on microfilm that I have found to be very valuable in absence of/in addition to records.
