I have found in a book intitled "A Trip Down Memory Lane-- Cherokee 1870-1992" an article about a fire in Cherokee, Kansas, April 6, 1888. There is a long list of the stores that were affected and there losses. "N.H. Rogers lost a valuable hearse which was stored in Crowder's Livery Stable. His loss being $200.00. No insurance." I looked through several other books for his business or name and this is the only thing I could find. I hope this helps you place a date for your mother's walnut dresser. The author of the book is: Wilma Snare 310 South Palmeto Cherokee, Kansas 66724
