This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Wettstein Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/zl.2ADE/510 Message Board Post: I have just found out that the name of Ashley where Henry Wettstein was living when he re-married in 1904 refers to a coal mining camp and not a city in Crawford County, which is why I could not locate it on a map. I have been reading the earlier messages posted about these coal camps and, like a previous poster, would like to know more. Is there a map showing the location(s) of these coal camps and are there still existing records that would tell us about the company that owned (for instance, Ashley) and anything else that might be of interest to us, including something about the individual miners? Did each one have a specific job to do in the mine? We know Henry came over from Switzerland; he may have been a cheesemaker over there (still debatable), but for some reason choose? to become a coal miner over here, in both Illinois and Kansas. We do not expect the company records to tell us this, but it might be nice to see what they did know. (If anything).
