I have only the 1900 census stating that John Maskrod immigrated in 1861. Maskrod is an unusual name which is probably not its original form. I have been searching for a long time, through Ancestry and Castle Garden with no results, and thought maybe they came through another port. John Maskrod lived in Illinois and then Kansas. He says he was born in either France or Italy, but came to the US from Swtizerland. I can't imagine the spelling of his name if it started out French! Foreign accents in the US were not necessarily heard the way they were pronounced. :-)
