Girard is more central and found in Crawford township. Hepler is in Walnut township with Walnut, Hepler is more north and east of Walnut. Walnut was platted in 1870 by the Katy Railroad as Glendale, but the town did not appear until about 1873. This area was an important agricultural center since the early days of the county. I have several lists of towns in Crawford County with their early histories. For anyone interested I would be glad to share.
