That does not mean all residents are buried in it. They were buried in various cemeteries, as well as, the Potters Field at the Columbus City Cemetery. The property is privately owned today, I'm not sure if they own the cemetery also. It is a small cemetery with only a few readable tombstones. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=2145006&CScnty=894& http://www.rootsweb.com/~kscemete/cherokee/Poor-Farm/cem-poorfarm.html CHEROKEE COUNTY KANSAS GENEALOGICAL-HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC. -- 100 S. Marilyn Schmitt said she transcribed the County Poor House Register of burials 1876-1928, and it's available for research at their Library Room of the Genealogy and Columbus Museum Building. There is apparently a bit more info in the register than the partial listing that I have. Sam Cox, who wasn't one of yours, apparently his wife was with him, they were colored. One of the necessary and beneficent institutions of Cherokee County is the farm maintained for the unfortunate poor of the county, for the past five years efficiently conducted by Superintendent H. S. Coon. It contains 240 acres and is situated in Crawford township, comprising the southeast quarter of section 8, and the west half of the southwest quarter of section 9, township 33, range 24. This farm was started with five inmates, October 1, 1882, Mr. Pattyson being its first superintendent. The following gentlemen have served as superintendents up to this date: Mr. Pattyson, 1882-83; M. I. Davis, 1883-84; Jacob Lemly, 1884-90; James Taylor, 1890-92; James Marshall, 1892-93 M. L. Medsker, 1893-95; and I. D. Van Orsdall, 1895-99. On September 30, 1899, Mr. Coon succeeded to the office. The number of inmates has varied from 22 to 35, there being at present about 22. The farm has always been largely self-supporting, and in 1903 showed a balance on the credit side. Author: cabincreek138 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.crawford/962.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Crawford County Genealogical Society publishes a quarterly newsletter called "The Seeker." In the Summer 2001 issue the pedigree of Gala Faye Morton (probably a member of the society) was included. According to the pedigree, her father was William Oliver Morton. William's father was Edward David Morton born 1 May 1856, but no place of birth was given. His mother was Permelia Anne Jones. The pedigree listed Edward's parents as Jeremiah and Elizabeth Morton. According to a book of tombstone transcriptions from Crawford County, Edward (1856-1942) and Anne (1856-1927) are buried in the Langdon Cemetery which is four miles south of Pittsburg. Perhaps if you wrote to the Genealogical Society, they could forward your message to Gala if she is still a member. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [KSCRAWFO] Surnames -- Cuthbertson, Conder, Gibson & related families
    2. Hello, My research has involved a number of Crawford County families. CUTHBERTSON, and related families such as Anderson, Gemmell, Wylie, Nairn, etc. who settled southwest of Girard. (Also some info. on tangentially connected lines such as Kirkwood, Andrew, Faulds/Gregg & some on the Wm. Crawford family.) CONDER, and related families like Sturgeon in the Girard area. GIBSON, the family of S.A. Gibson at McCune, and related to the J.A. Gibson family in Pittsburg, etc. I'm glad to hear from folks researching these lines, and others from families that came to Crawford County from the Sparta, IL, area and/or with origins around Fenwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. I'm also glad to hear from folks connected to the Presbyterian & old United Presbyterian Churches at Girard (especially Osage Presbyterian), Beulah, and the Pittsburg U.P. One caveat -- The late Wm. C. Cuthbertson of Girard was my father's cousin, but most of his records other than those pertaining to our immediate family are at the library in Pittsburg. In recent years I have tried to carry on and update William's work on our particular lines. I grew up near Girard, and graduated from GHS in 1974. All the best, Ken Cuthbertson Albuquerque, NM ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Kansas Pvt 354 Base Hq AB SQ AAF World War II 1-27-1907 7-24-1954 (page 244) None of these were listed on the same page, nor did they appear to be buried near any others who could be identified as family members. I did not find any marriage or birth records for this family. Could it be that these three sons never married? Lois Kay
