Mary Frances or Missy as she was called moved with her mother and step-father to Sheridan about 1875. Missy was born about 1865 or so in Indiana. Her mother's name was Sarah Glaze Northam. I believe she was married about 1890 or so, either that, or she passed away. Could someone take a look at the marriages and see who she married, please? I would sure appreciate it. Hi Mary, Stephen Howard and his son William D. Howard were among those given land patents ("original entry") for 160 acres each in Crawford County, KS on 1 Jan 1870. This means they had been living on the land, had built a shelter, and grown a crop, etc. for awhile before that date. In a 1897 list of persons living in Lincoln Twp. over the age of 70, Talitha Ellen Howard was listed as born in 1817 in Kentucky. In a list of surviving old settlers, Bluford Howard of the town of Mulberry was listed as having arrived in Crawford County in 1864 . Stephen Howard's will was dated 22 Feb 1875 and was probated 6 Apr 1875 in Crawford County so he must have died sometime in that time period. The probate record names his wife as Talitha (rather than Tabitha) Ellen Howard. It names his sons as: Joseph S., Bluford J., M. Howard, Stephen M., and William D. It names his daughters as: Nancy E. Patterson, Elizabeth J. Endicott, Malinda A. Claypool, Henrietta A. Claypool, Synthia E. Howard, and Rebecca E. Howard. Bluford and his wife are buried at Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry. Their tombstones are inscribed: Howard Jane M. 1869-1943 Bluford J. 1864-1949 (So perhaps Bluford was born in Crawford County). I did not find tombstones listed for Stephen, Talitha, or any of the children other than Bluford. There are other Endicotts and Howards (mostly children who died young) buried at Rosebank Cemetery. Mulberry is just inside the Kansas/Missouri state line. I am wondering whether you might find other information about this family in Barton County, Missouri. Just a thought. To _i-be-leve@msn.com_ (mailto:i-be-leve@msn.com) I realize you may have this information, but I will provide it in case you don't (sorry I don't have obits): In the 1905 Kansas State Census: Page 4, City of Arcadia: Owns house free and clear, Dwelling 1, family 1 T. E. Howard, age 87, female, widow, born in Kentucky, moved to Kansas from Arkansas, trade/profession blank She lives with M. A. Claypool, age 54, female, widow, born Arkansas, moved to Kansas from Arkansas, trade/profession blank On Heritage Quest, Tabitha E. Howard is indexed as Talitha Howard and on Ancestry she is named Sabetha C. Howard, with an alternate spelling of Talitha E. Howard. She lives in Dwelling 13, Family 13 in Lincoln Twp. (part of), city of Arcadia, District 85, sheet 1B, line 51. She lives on Harris Street and is the head of household, female, white, age 96, widow, mother of 9 children, 5 of whom are living. She was born in Kentucky and her parents were born in Virginia. She speaks English; occupation none, own income, can read and write, owns her house free and clear. She lives with Malinda A. Caypool. Malinda, her daughter, is female, white, age 53, widow. She bore 2 children, one of whom is living. She was born in Arkansas and her parents were born in Kentucky. She speaks English, occupation none. She can read and write. I did not locate her in the 1915 census and conclude she died between 1910 and 1915. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will do a 5-year search for the basic fee. I wish you luck in getting the obit and death information. I have a document dated Feb. 18, 1910 at Arcadia, Crawford Co. Kansas, that states "Tabitha Ellen HOWARD age 92-P.O. address Arcadia, KS, mother of Rebecca BENTLEY"... being that old I'm guessing she was living with someone. I can't find Tabitha on Ancestry.com. I'm hoping to locate a date of death for Tabitha and an obit. I have limited info on her. Tabitha was the widow of Stephen HOWARD, mother to Rebecca Ellen, Bluford, Cynthia, Malinda and Henrietta. Any help would really be appreciated! Mary in snowy west Michigan. i-be-leve@msn.com

Hello Listers ~ Would there be anyone on this list, descended from Samuel F. Pike, born Jan 1, 1831, North Carolina, died, 26 Feb 1923. He married Sarah Ann Norman. If there are descendants, I have information on his ancestry and perhaps a picture. I'd like to find out where he is buried as I am headed east on a genealogy venture which will take me through Kansas, and I would stop to visit and take a picture of his stone if I could find out where he is buried. Thanks for any and all help. Cat Catherine Monticue Denver, CO www.catherinemonticue.net 01/20/09

William was born c.1859 in Ireland and came to the US in 1882 from Scotland (via. Philadelphia, PA) with his mother and some of his siblings. In 1895, I found him living in Chicopee, Crawford Co., in the Kansas Census, living with his brother James and his family (wife Agnes, children Harry, James, and Kate). William RUSSEL is listed as being a miner. I am unable to find William in the 1900 US Census, although the name is common enough that if he left the area he could be one of a number of possibilities. He is no longer with his brother (whose family is living in Baker, Crawford Co.). Also, I am interested in any additional information on James' family. He married his wife Agnes Ferns in Cherokee County in 1885. Between that time and the 1900 Census, she had 6 children, 2 of whom died. Another, James (Jr.), died in 1901 at approximately 9 years of age. By 1902 the family had left Crawford County for Arkansas (their daughter Agnes was born in Sebastian County, AR in Feb. of 1902). Any data you can add would be greatly appreciated. Glenn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
