It was the first place they came to upon arrival from Sweden. Actual town was McPhereson, Kansas, and the household of J. Otto Engstrom can be seen in 1880's census. He is listed as a bank clerk. Later, the history of Vail-Crawford one can find a small excert in the history, telling that he bought and owned the newspaper for a while. An old letter from "Uncle Enoch" Engstrom is dated in 1940's and posted from Mcphereson, Kansas. 3. Thank you everyone for your response. I am going to the Parsons area in October. I live in Wichita. I really want to make the most of my time! I have Brooks family buried in Sherman Cemetery, some Cooper and Long family in Harley (sad shape) and Long family in McCune Cemetery. I have done research at the Cherokee County Kansas Genealogical Society and the Columbus Public Library. Both places are FULL up of wonderful information that has furthered my family research. Bob asked about Sarah Long's ancestry: Sarah Long d/o William O. Long & Ruth Graham/Grimes? B: 3 Aug 1806 TN D: 16 July 1887, McCune, Crawford, KS She is the only sibling that came to the Cherokee/Crawford area. However her brother, George William Long's son Amos, lived in the area. I descend from Amos. Again, thank you for the "tips." I have not been to the Parsons Library. I need to find obits for that area for my Fleming, Dunn, Steward and Cooper families.
