    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: thompuzzle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.crawford/1050.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't have answers to all of your questions, but I can answer some of them. There are 3 places that you should look for records on your family. 1) Pittsburg Genealogy Library. It is part of the public library, but last I recall had different hours than the library in general. The following site has information on the library: http://sites.google.com/site/pplblogger/home 2) The library in Girard, Kansas. They have a genealogy room that I believe is open general library hours. Their website is: http://www.girardpubliclibrary.net/innerPages/genealogy.html 3) The court house in Girard, Kansas. It is on the main square in town and you can't miss it. In addition, you may also want to check out the genealogy society in Ft. Scott, KS. It is in a different county, but they have quite a few resources for the area. If you had any family in the northern part of Crawford Co, you definitely want to check it out. At the libraries, you can copy most documents for a per page fee. The most expensive tends to be copies from microfilm. For records at the courthouse, I would expect them to be more expensive, but I don't have the details for Girard. I have found records there back into the 1870's, but not everything is documented (e.g. births). Also, if you know any possible dates, the libraries have old copies of newspapers on microfilm that I have found to be very valuable in absence of/in addition to records. I am going to visit there in the near future. I am going to look up records on my family. I was wondering if anybody knows where to go to look up birth, marriage, death, and naturalization records. How much the copies are? The address, times, etc.? Are there any privacy laws? When does the birth, marriage, and death records begin, ex. 1877? Just anything at all I would need to know when looking up records there. I have a lot to get so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time. I thought he died there, but perhaps he did go to Pittsburg. If you can give me the approx. date he died the next time I go to the Ks Historical Research Center I would be happy to look for an obit on microfilm, everything is of course by newspaper name & date. His father is listed in the website "Find a Grave" His mother C.C. died in Arkansas, buried in a cemetary that had to be moved when a dam was built. possible cousin? I have not found much to help you, but some. Florinda was buried at McCune Cemetery which is described as being one mile west of McCune, KS. Her tombstone indicates she was born 2 Aug 1855 and died 4 Dec 1925. It would appear that William may not have a tombstone. George V. Beckman, age 27, and Myrtle Garrison, age 17, were married 23 Oct 1895 in Crawford County. From the SSDI, it would appear Fred Garrison, born 13 Feb 1889, died Mar 1964; and his last residence was at an unknown location in Kansas. Her father was Silas Emerson Hill. She was born in Emporia. She became a Baptist preacher. She married Walter Eugene Tanner in 1921 in Ft Scott, KS. I need to know more about her. At the time that she lived, it was unusual for a woman to be a Baptist preacher. She was pastor of a Baptist church in Pittsburg in about 1912. She died in 1939 in West Virginia. I was hoping to find an obit for her in Pittsburg or anywhere in Kansas, since she grew up there and worked there. If you know about an obit or any kind of biography of her, please let me know.
