    1. [KSCRAWFO] Hello
    2. lo
    3. Hello, I am looking for information if possible regarding my family. My great grandmother was Barbara Burg Wilkinson, born 1877 in Germany moved to America in 1879.With her family. Friedrich and Susan were her parents, Siblings we believe are Michael, Lena, Mary, Susie and Maggie. She was married to Harry Wilkinson. They had Nine children. They eventually resided in KS and MO. Two of her sisters , this is where we get confused, Mary Smith and Maggie? Also there is a Katherine Smith, Which could have been Wilkinson or Burgs, Katherine was probably a sister in law to one of my ladies. Anyway, if I haven;t lost you so far, they ran what my grandmother refers to as a "joint" ,in Chicopeee, KS. WE are hoping it was a tavern, but they had gambling and beer. If anyone has any information like a name for the place or info on the sisters it would be greatly appreciated... I am estimating this place was there around 1920's Thanks lori

    2. Robin Sloan
    3. If anyone is researching the Weir family...I've ran into a list of children working in the coal mines in SE Scotland in ca. 1842. I found 2 Weir children in ELGIN COLLIERY, parish of Dunfermlime, county of Fife. Hope this can help someone. I do not know if this is the same Weir family of Cherokee Co. I DO know some of these families emigrated together - my MacQueens (I'm certain of the connection) that emigrated to Crawford County and Jacks are on this same page. http://wkweb5.cableinet.co.uk/ian.winstanley/esct.htm Robin in Indy Climbing her family tree.. visit http://www.my-ged.com/robin/

    1. [KSCRAWFO] History of Chicopee KS
    2. Robin Sloan
    3. Hi everyone, Got a copy of the History of Chicopee KS - it's about 10 pages while I was in the library in Pittsburg a couple of weeks ago. It was written by Mary Lenne, now desceased. I will do lookups for people; not a lot of genealogical information but it is a very nice work that puts "you there" at the turn of the century. Found an Aunt that owned a Chili Parlor/Wrestling Room with her husband in Chicopee. I'm in the process of retyping and putting it up on my web site and hope to have it done soon. Also, I found a JEWEL of a vital records resource - the Catholic Church in Pittsburg. Found ALL of my family's records from St. Barbara's in Chicopee there. They have seperate volumes for most of the little Catholic Churches in the Pittsburg area eg. Fleming, Chicopee, etc. etc. I left a donation and was very careful examining the records; they were so kind to help me. Also, you need to call first before going. BTW St. Barbara is the patron saint of miners. Robin in Indy Climbing her family tree.. visit http://www.my-ged.com/robin/

    1. Re: [KSCRAWFO] Runyan Family
    2. D King
    3. Barbara and list memebers - Thanks for sending the information. Carl and Isabelle Runyan McCulley are my grandparents and it surprises me that they are listed in the obits in Crawford County as Isabelle was living in Bourbon County (died in Linn County in a car accident) at the time of her death in 1966. Carl was in a nursing home in Neosho County, Ks in 1990 when he died and had never lived in Crawford County. The McCulleys were all in Linn and Bourbon Counties. I don't know who the other Guys and Runyans are that you have listed, but I will sure find out. Possibly siblings who came along with my g-grandparents. (?) Midway is was a mining town, they were miners. :) I thought that was so cute! Melissa Ellen Guy Runyan was born in 1861 in Indiana. I believe that she went by Ellen. She died in the early 1930's in a horse and buggy accident. Francis Marion Richard Runyan is probably about the same age as her. I don't know when he died or where he was born. As far as I know, they never left Crawford County after they got there. My best guess is that he died in the 1920's or 1930's unless he was in some type of accident earlier - but the family has never mentioned an accident. Someone told me that he went by the name Richard. The Runyan name could also be spelled Runyon or Runnion. It evolved from the name Rongnion who were French Heugenots. They had a large family. The other siblings were: Ethel, Omar, Ivan, Martha, John, James, and Ed Runyan. There are more and then there were some that died young that I don't have yet. My grandmother (Isabelle) must have been one of the last children born as she was born in 1899. Her chore was dishes and she talked alot about all of those dishes she had to do (and even always smiled about it!), so I know the siblings weren't all grown up by the time she got to be of dishwashing age. Throughout her life she kept an immaculate home and was a wonderful cook. Her mother had taught her very well. This is all the information that I can think of. I think that Midway was a mining town somewhere close to Frontenac. (right, Carol?) Thanks again for all of your help, Connie King barbara wrote: > > Connie, > I have done the same thing with my Buchanan line, I have two large notebooks on the wrong line! > It's best to laugh and just keep looking. > > I have looked in the Midway Directory 1901-1902. 3. Donna, Could N-H refer to the name of the company your great uncle worked for? Do you know his profession? South of Pittsburg there is a Langdon Lane Road. We have a lot of newspapers on microfishe and have notebooks of reunions, and other events that have been published in the newspapers over the years. I'll look next time I'm at the library and get back to you. Barbara

    3. Connie, I have done the same thing with my Buchanan line, I have two large notebooks on the wrong line! It's best to laugh and just keep looking. I have looked in the Midway Directory 1901-1902. These are the names I found: Guy, Charles (Mrs. Elizabeth), minor Runyan, Stephan H. (Mrs. Maria L.), minor Runyan, Wm. A. (Mrs. Mary), minor, res. 53 I might have copied minor wrong, maybe it should be miner? In The Crawford County Kansas Obituaries Volume-16(M-Z) Index of Names, there is: Runyan, Isabelle > McCulley, Carl...1990 We have a lot of Obituary Books for Crawford Co. 3. Bob Long, Hello, I have found information about the Bowman Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Kansas. There is a two page article that tells about it, I am not sure if I should send an attachment to this list so if you would be interested I can send it via email. There is probably an easier way to do it but I am new at this and this is the only way I know to send it. Let me know if you are interested, Barbara [email protected]

    1. [KSCRAWFO] Long, Lost Relatives ~ BROCK
    2. Donna Strong
    3. Am trying to find out information on a great-uncle and his family who lived in Langdon, Crawford Co., KS some time during the 1940s and 50s. I have sketchy information on this family, as follows: Arthur William Brock born May 1881 died ??? (probably 1948-1954/55) spouse: Mary (Unknown) ~ possibly, Cooper born/died ???? children: Robert Lee; Eva; Viola; and Waive sons-in-law: Bennie Sigman; Dale Wall; Bob Davis (unsure who belonged to which daughter) I have a newspaper clipping (unfortunately, without a publication name or date) of an article about a BROCK reunion that took place. In part, it states: "After a separation of 26 years, Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur (my note: It should be Arthur William) Brock, RFD 4, have been reunited this week with their four children, Sgt. Robert L. Brock of Decorah, IA; Mmes. Bennie Sigman and Dale Wall of Ukiah, Calif., and Bob Davis of Loyalton, Calif. A lawn party was held at the Brock home Thursday evening for 55 guests. Many were relatives whom the Brocks' children had never met. On the guest list were: Richard Swan, Messrs. and Mmes. Charles Cooper and family and I.D. Thomas and family, all of Langdon; etc...." In the right-hand corner of the photo is a square with "N-H PIC". I am hoping this might have been the studio which took the photo and might signal a timeframe for this reunion. From the hairstyles of the daughters and the ages of Arthur and Mary, I would say the 1940s. Any information whatsoever about this family would be greatly appreciated. After they left the rest of the Brocks in Tennessee, we lost track of them and really have only the information I have listed above. Arthur was my grandfather's brother and I'd like to find out more information about him and his family. Thanks much, Donna (Brock) Strong Hamilton, Ohio
