Kansas to John W. Rose and Isabelle Thompson Rose who lived in Mecosta Co. and Allegan Co. MI. This birth record appears in Mecosta Co.MI. They had other children who were all born in MI so I am wondering were John and Isabelle on a trip to visit relatives in Kansas when she was born, Roses or Thompsons, or maybe even some other name. John and Isabelle also had a son Sylvester b.abt. 1869 but do not find him after the 1870 census. Maybe he died in KS?? Hope someone can help me out. Please e-mail me. Thanks!

He is listed as a "Policeman" and that they were renting the property at 509 N. Walnut. Subsequent searches in Pittsburg and Girard libraries for obits or burials produced no record of either. I will check the city and county employee archives for any reference to this family. Will let you know what I find. Carl Martens

    3. Girard is more central and found in Crawford township. Hepler is in Walnut township with Walnut, Hepler is more north and east of Walnut. Walnut was platted in 1870 by the Katy Railroad as Glendale, but the town did not appear until about 1873. This area was an important agricultural center since the early days of the county. I have several lists of towns in Crawford County with their early histories. For anyone interested I would be glad to share. 2. This is what I did: Go to http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Fill in feature name Walnut, county Crawford, state Kansas and you get the following results: Walnut, KS, population of 188 in 1994 Walnut Cemetery Walnut Grange Walnut Township all in Crawford County, Kansas The page also provides latitude and longitude for each location. To see it on a map: Go to www.census.gov/ and click on maps, then TMS Version 2.5. On the right side, "turn on" the labels for cities, counties and highways. Scroll down to the bottom left where it says "You can also search for a U. S. city, fill in Walnut, KS and click on search. Take your pick from the results. Hope this helps. 3. Hello everyone: My grandfather was the book-keeper of the mine and was working in the office that day when the mine blew.... My Aunt Ruth Rabbitt told me that her father (my grandfather Patrick H. Rabbitt) told her that when the mine blew the blast threw a tin cup he was holding into the wall. When he found it it was badly dented and bent. He was not injured that day and his brothers were miners there but that day they did not work the mine. Just thought I would add this tidbit of history..
