As Crawford Co use to be Cherokee Co as well as also once being McGee Co I am sending a site for Cherokee Co. My great grandfather was born in all three of these counties.Well actually he was born near Cato but you see what I mean. Then too the northern part of Crawford was once Bourbon Co If you can't find a family member listed as living in Crawford Co then you might want to check into the neighboring counties. Great grandpa is listed in Bourbon, Crawford and Cherokee as place of birth. As so he sometimes shows up in all these early census. Crazy county Carol http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/archives/cherokee/1904b2.html

I can find out when this event is scheduled again. One of my cousins was raised near Midway and Litchfield. Had grandparents from Litchfield Carol [email protected] wrote: > Hi Carol > On a 1928 USDA Cawford County Map, there appears to be a small > settlement and a School called "Midway" located as follows: > > From the US-69 Jct., with McKay Street, Frontenac, go 4 Miles east > and 1/2 Mile south. > I haven't been there so I don't know how much of this settlement is > left, and I don't know if this is what you were looking for. > > This map shows the location of the towns and so called "One Room > Country Schools" in existence in Crawford County in 1928. Hello, Whoops. The Midway Coal tipple I mentioned is located just north of Columbus, however, it is in Cherokee County. I'm sorry I guess I didn't think that there may have also been a town Midway in Crawford County. I need to keep in mind this is a Crawford County site. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused anyone. Hi Carol On a 1928 USDA Cawford County Map, there appears to be a small settlement and a School called "Midway" located as follows: From the US-69 Jct., with McKay Street, Frontenac, go 4 Miles east and 1/2 Mile south. I haven't been there so I don't know how much of this settlement is left, and I don't know if this is what you were looking for. This map shows the location of the towns and so called "One Room Country Schools" in existence in Crawford County in 1928. If anyone would like to know the location of a particular school, I'll be glad to e-mail it to them. Carl [email protected]

<< Can do lookups in this Cem. Large one or I would list surnames. Carol >> Carol - Thank you for your kind offer. Are you working from an index of the gravestones, or do you have access to the actual cemetery records? Charlotte
Steve, I believe Midway, Kansas is or was located about three miles straight north of Columbus, KS on Highway 7. My first wife's grandparents lived at Stipville, Kansas, and referred to that general area as Midway. I believe Midway was an old coal tipple, and may have been slightly west of the highway (#7). If you'll ask old timers (historians) in or around Columbus, I'll bet they could pinpoint the old coal tippple. When I mention old timers I guess that's me, I'm 67. I do have some knowledge about Crawford County, KS history, since I was born in Beulah, KS in 1933 and lived on farms in that area. Bill DeGarmo
