Surnames: Mason, Pontius, Pontious, Liberman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Xl.2ADI/152 Message Board Post: Have found in old issues of the Winfield Courier many references to Fannie, Hattie, Mary and Theo Pontious. Fannie taught Grade 2, District #55 in Richland, Prairie Grove, Rock Creek and Winfield and attended the Normal each year from 1877 through at least 1882. Hattie was also a teacher, teaching Grade C and 3, District 22 at Winfield, at Richland and was secretary of the "literary at 108" (Richland). Mary also attended and received her teaching certificate at the 8/9/1877 Normal, taught District 20, Winfield, and attended the Floral Grange as well as teaching at the Floral school. Mr. Pontious (maybe Theo, but Theo could be a brother to Hattie, Fannie and Mary) was apparently a member of the school board, because the indicate that he and Mr. Vanorsdol were "looking after the interests of school district 108." I'm looking for any information on any of the Pontiouses (may also be spelled Pontius) including any offspring. My great-grandmother (Anna Liberman Mason) was Mary Jane Pontius' daughter, so I'm hoping Mary and Mary Jane are the same person. Any assistance at all would be a great help!
