DAMEWOOD. Thomas drown in 1898 as stated in The Buffalo Advocate do not have the actual obituary just want it was suppose to have said. The body of Thos. Damewood who was drowned in the Arkansas River near Wichita last fall was recovered about Jan. 1, 1899, ten miles west of Winfield. He had gone with a party of buffalo hunters from Neodesha last fall. He was a son of J. H. Damewood in Cowley Co. this was in the Buffalo Advocate 3-3-1899 - - 9-26-1902 Aug. 11, 1899 I have not been able to locate this Buffalo Advocate. Carson, 102, died Friday morning at William Newton Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery. Swisher Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carson was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center. She was born on Nov. 19, 1881, in Randolph, Texas, to Oliver and Sarah Jane Leever. She was educated in Randolph schools and married Edward Carson June 30, 1909, in Bonham, Texas. He died in 1960. They made their first home in Winfield and she lived here the rest of her life except for three years when she lived in Sedan. Mrs. Carson was a member of the Nazarene Church. Surviving are one son, Cecil, of Sunnydale, Calif.; two daughters, Evelyn Kirkpatrick, Ponca City, Okla., and Merle Kratz, Filer, Idaho; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Wednesday, May 30, 1984 Mary M. Carson Graveside funeral services for Mary M. Carson were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery by the Rev. E. R. Houston. Swisher-Taylor and Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

I finally located him living in Rock Creek Township in 1880 as a servant (working on a farm) with an unrelated family. It appears his wife (Abigail Pike) b. March 1841 has already died before 1880. John and Abigail were living in Sedgwick Co. in 1870. I would love to find out where and when Abigail died. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Karen

I am curious, though, because my gggrandmother, Barbara Frances Dale Coleman, moved to Cowley County around 1870 and left in abt 1881. They lived in Harvey Township, though. She is the daughter of Purnell (Pernal) Dale of Rush County, IN, who was a son of Mathew Dale, of Carlisle, KY, formerly of Worcester, MD. Could be a connection?

Dale and Susannah Angeline McReynolds. James S. Dale is a descendent of Squire Dale. My great grandfather was John Arbuckle Dale and lived and died in Cambridge Kansas in Cowley County, Kansas. The only connection that I have between John Arbuckle Dale and the John Dale who descended from James S. Dale is that both James and Susannah appeared to have died in Cowley County, Kansas. If anyone has any additional information concerning John Dale I would appreciate it.

The 1932 PA obituary of Gwen (Price) Griffith lists David Price of Cowley County's Winfield as a surviving brother. The other surviving siblings were Mary (Price) Hancock of Wesmoreland County and Margaret (Price) Davis of Des Moines, Iowa. David Price was probably born in Wales in the 1860s.
