I am looking for any information on the Nommsen family in Winfield, KS around 1880. F.C. Nommsen was a barber and had a partner named Stueven (Nommsen & Stueven). Together they operated baths and rooms at the Brettun House. Any info on the Brettun House or the surname Nommsen in the Winfield area would be GREATLY appreciated!

It's a BIG sucker, and really the main cemetery for the city of Winfield. As mentioned, easy to find if you just go south out of town and cross the (Walnut) river, and start looking right...it's a kinda winding road the leads up a hill to open up on a high plain. If you are looking, you better have a plat with the locations of the plots of interest!!! <grin> Gary&Mary Lee Presson, Wichita

Hello Listers, I have completed an update of my Elmer & Alva (BIRCHFIELD/DAVIS) BRADFORD web page (from Blackwell, OK). (Thanks to cousin Gary BELL!) I invite you to take a look at their information as well as other related surnames such as; RUTTER, (BULLOCK), (BUSER), (GONZOLEZ), (REYES), BELL, SLOAN, BENSON and (SIPE). Photo's also...... Enjoy....... Marla Andrus {Marla's Tree House} http://www.angelfire.com/on/davisfamilytree/alvaelmer.html
Apparently this list is set to: When you REPLY, the reply goes to the individual who posted originally, and not back to the list, itself, which is to all members. MOST mailing lists of general interest (surnames, counties, etc.) are set to "reply" back to the list. So, for those of you who are not aware, or careful, you need to pay attention to where any of your replies are going. IF all you see is a person's personal mail address, and you wish to make your reply to the general populace of this list, then you should tell your mailer to REPLY TO ALL, then VOILA! everybody will get it. I have no idea why the listowner has this list set up to make personal replies as a default. ============================================= Re: [KSCOWLEY] Looking for Grandparents and Great-Grandparents Resent-Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2001 08:16:16 -0600 Resent-From: [email protected] Date: Sun, 01 Jul 2001 09:16:15 -0500 From: "Gary F. Hello Everyone, RE: Wilmer Chester Osborn Jr family tree. I am just beginning to build my family's tree. I have been running into a lot of dead ends. I started at the cemetery where my grandparents are buried. I found out that my grandfather (according to the funeral records) is from Happy Prairie Ks. and was born on Oct 31, 1895. According to the Kansas State Historical Society, there is no such place. I went to the genealogy dept of my local library and found out from the 1920 Census that my grandfather was born in Cowley county, in Arkansas City, Ks and was 23 and married in 1920 , it also shows his father is from Ky and his mother is from Mo. I have also found from the census that we have been spelling our last name without the e at the end. On the funeral records it shows my grandfathers father as unknown, his mother is Fannie Whitaker. I have been unable to find out any info on my grandfathers parents using the census. I'm guessing I will need to write the Vital Records dept of Topeka to get a copy of grandfathers birth certificate. That is about all the info I have at this time.. If anyone can help me, I would really really appreciate it... Thank You Janice [email protected]
I have posted to this query before and a gentleman did answer but I am sorry to say that his message was deleted before I had a chance to answer him. I am looking for Harry Lee O'Laughlin, married Lela Faye Bennett (Hendrickson by 1st marriage). They had 2 children: Sharon Kay and Gary Lee. Lela had a daughter Joan Shirley Hendrickson by her first marriage. Harry's father was Michael Patrick O'Laughlin of MO. Lela's mother's maiden name was Pelham. I believe she married a John (?) Bennett and her first name was Flora. I believe Harry and Lela address may have been 815 West Lindes in Arkansas City in 1938 when I (Gary) was born. Harry worked in the press room at the Arkansas City Daily ? (believe it was the local newpaper) from what my birth certificate says. I believe he may have also worked at one time for the Post Office. Lela was a housewife. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Gary Lee O'Laughlin
I have information that my great grandmother, Lucindi Chase was buried at New Salem, KS about 1896. Does anyone know what cemeteries are located in that community. Are any cemeteries indexed? Thanks, Rayman Carlton

Seeking info on family of Cyrus E Chance d. 21 June 1929 in Winfield and buried in the Highland Cemetery there. He was the son of Levi Chance and Martha Jane Fesmire and b. 15 Nov 1864 in Union Grove, Hamilton Co, Indiana and married Henrietta Stull on 20 Oct 1894 in Alva, Woods Co, OK. Henrietta, dau of Rev John Wesley and Eliza Ann Stull, was b. 24 Jan 1867 in Scotland Co, Missouri and d. 26 July 1941 in Colorado and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Winfield. They had a daughter, Helen Grace Chance b. 21 Nov 1906 - who married Herbert Schmidt. They were last known residing in Colorado. Grace Schmidt may have died 15 Sept 1996 possibly at Littleton, CO - (SSDI). Herbert Schmidt may have died Nov 1975 possibly at Englewood, CO - (SSDI). They may have been brought back to Highland Cemetery in Winfield for burial. Henrietta Chance had a sister Rilla Stull who also possibly lived in Winfield - as well as brothers Vandy and Francis Stull and other sisters - Mrs. W G Pennington, Mrs G W Dudley and Mrs W R Rosington. I have no idea at this time if any of these family members happened to reside in Winfield. Would like to know if anyone in the list may have access to obits from Winfield newpaper, Highland Cemetery info or any other helpful info? Thanks for any reply to my query. Diane
