Trying to find out about my grandmother Marylee (maiden name Jones). Doing my family history. She was married to an A.L.Walker, then a Williams, then another time. Don't know that name. I lived with her when I was little, in Winfield. She had one daughter named Ruth Walker. Think she had two more daughters to. Anything will be appreciated. Thank You--------- Judy
Trying to find out anything about a Maude Kennedy and a W. A.. Baker. (Also have seen his name listed as A.C. Baker). Maude taught school in Winfield in the 1904 time frame and most likely later as well. She was the daughter of William James Wallace Kennedy and Margaret M. (Porter) Kennedy who lived in Silver Creek Township (near Freeport), Harper County, Kansas from the 1890s until 1910 or 1911. Maude and W.A.. Baker were married in Harper County, KS. about 1910, however, I believe he may have been from Winfield or Cowley County and they set up residence there while she taught school. I would appreciate any assistance in finding information about them or possibly the school (s) she may have taught. John E. Bartos
Trying to find anyone who knew or knows Christine Walker. She was once married to A.L. Walker.Doing my family history.
I came across this listing of the mayors of Winfield and imagine my surprise to find that among the photos is one of my grandfather, Oscar Gafney, who served in 1931. Although I will contact the mayor's office this week, does anyone know where the originals came from for this listing? I don't have this particular photo among my family album collection and would like to obtain a copy of the original if at all possible. The URL is: http://www.ausbcomp.com/~bbott/winfield/commiss/byyear2.htm Thanks, Ellen
Mode JOHNSON and his wife Dolsa are my great-greatgrandparents. I've been looking and looking for them with no luck. Anyone have either of these two people? They are my brickwall and I'm just about to give up on them both. I put their years of birth at approx. 1840. Both are said to have been born in Alabama.. They had one child that I am sure of, Dolsa JOHNSON b. 10 November 1863 in Kemper Co. MS, she married Jeff Davis HUDNALL from Kemper Co. MS. The daughter (Dolsa Johnson Hudnall) married in 1884 and moved to Cedar Vale KS where her first child was born, Mode HUDNALL, in 1885. To my knowledge none of the Hudnalls lived in Kansas before or after that time. I think that maybe she went to Kansas from Mississippi for the birth of her first child to be near her mother and father. I know that at approximately the same time (1884) there was a Mode JOHNSON living in that area of Kansas. I saw his name mentioned from a May 21, 1884 Arkansas City Traveler newspaper, it simply said that, "Mode Johnson was up from his ranch last week for a day or so. He reports everything as prospering finely." Help me out here....."up from his ranch", does anyone think that could have meant that he came from Cedar Vale to Arkansas City? I've written to this list before and gotten several responses, but I lost all of that information when my old computer crashed. I had a lot saved to disk, but I have Windows 98 now and it won't convert any of my old files that were done in Windows for Workgroups 3.11's version of Works. I thank everyone for their time and patience with me, I appreciate it very much. Thanks, Vickie L. Carter - [email protected]

Hi folks, Could anyone help me find an obituary for Robert James Maxwell (b. 1854, d. 8 Oct 1917)? According to my sources, he is buried in the Parker Cemetery. Also, he was a druggist in the firm of Parker & Maxwell in Arkansas City. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Philip Turner <[email protected]>

Seeking any Callison descendants who were in Cowley Co, Kansas after 1900. Thanks a bunch. I can provide ancestors. Actually there are two different lines of Callisons in the area who connect in some manner back to early 1800s in Virginia. Take care Marilyn

Hello Listers. I am wondering if there might be someone on this list that lives close enough to South Bend Cemetery that would take some photos of a grave marker for me? I am hoping to get a photo of Nathan E. carter, age 47, died 4 Oct 1896, and Mary Carter, wife of Nathan (died 1951). Hope to hear from someone! Karen
Hi, Does anyone know where the Pilcher Hospital of the early 1900s was located? Was it in Winfield? I assume it was named after Dr. Pilcher of that era. Thanks. Also, after revisting that site, I find that the correct spelling was, in fact BrettUn. I was just going by the way the picture was labled: "Bretton". When I read the text files, I found the family was, in fact, Brettun. Just shows to go ya. Thanks Catherine, and my apologies to you too.
