Believe Stephen Splawn Family arrived in 1870's, most likely in Silverdale area. Sister Harriet Egbert dies in 1877 while visiting her brother. Believe brother Mayberry arrives after 1880. Various references in Arkansas City Traveler to Splawn children and a trip (misadventure at best) to Washington State in mid 1880 by the Splawn brothers. 1900 Biography of Mayberry's brother-in-law states Mayberry's second wife is living in Silverdale Kansas; however, I have not been able to locate Margaret Splawn or any other Splawns in Cowley 1900 Census. May be near the Mann family as Stephen and Mayberry's sister, Eliza Jane, was married to Abraham Mann also located in Cowley County at some point in time. Any help greatly appreciated.

I received some information on an Isaac Cadwalader who resided in the Illinois Soldiers and Sailors' home until his death in 1919. On his application for admission in 1913 he states he had five living children, and wanted Mrs. Susan Brown of Udall, Kansas to be the person notified of any illness or death, and that his personal belongings should be sent to her in the event of his death. I have not been successful in finding Susan Brown but expect that she would still be living in Udall in 1919 and 1920, as a note on the hospital inventory states that "2 watches, 2 knives & purse in a suitcase. One suitcase and contents. 1 Bundle and contents," were shipped to Susan Brown, Udall, Kansas Dec 9, 1920. I suppose I need to know what township Udall is in before I ask for more information, but if anyone has a connection to Susan Brown or Isaac Cadwalader, I would appreciate your contacting me. Thank you very much.

An obit I have says that the ME Church was "organized at the Hammon School House" and when it was "disbanded" (which would have been I am guessing before about 1920), the Argonia man transferred his membership to the Argonia Methodist Church. There is a good Sumner County historical society, which has a book called, "Argonia, The First 100 Years," which would probably have some information on that. I have not been impressed so far with what I see on the GenWeb and Cowley County Historical County websites, but you might give them a try. I have the name of an excellent researcher in the area if you want someone to do lookups for you. Hope that helps.

I am looking for information about a McDowell family who are in the 1900 census in Winfield. Rebecca McDowell married a George McDowell in 1864 in Madison County, Ohio. They moved to Mercer County, PA and were there in 1880. They had a son born 1868 in PA. By 1900, George had died because Rebecca was a widow and running a boarding house. Her son, Thomas, born 1868, PA had been married about 3 years. His wife was an Emma born August 1876, KS father born IA, mother born IL. They had a daughter Jane, born May 1897 in Kansas. Rebecca's obituary in 1919 said that she was survived by a grand daughter Jane McDowell of Los Angeles. So I presume that her son had died by 1919. Does anyone know anything about this group of people? I would very much like to find out what happened to Thomas and Emma. Alot of Widener's in there, the cemetery is around Rock, Kansas.

Mine was Weidner, ggrandparents were married in Cloud Co. Ks. and later joined land rush to Oklahoma. They probably went sometime around 1889. John William Weidner and Mary Catherine Rogers Weidner. Some of ours may have had spelling variations, as we have not been able to pinpoint where some of them went. There were different runs, as more land was opened up. Everyone did not all settle an area at the same time. Makes keeping up with them fun.

They have records of everyone buried there from at least the early 1900's and maybe the late 1800's. They will be happy to help you. Calvin Baker was likely buried in Riverview Cemetery but there is another cemetery north of the city. If you don't find him there, be sure to look in Winfield, 12 miles north of Ark City.
