I've "rescued" an old photograph album which originally belonged to Sadie LICHTY ROWLAND. The album includes the following people identified with full names and an additional group of photographs identified with only first names. In addition to the list of those who are fully identified I've included some of my limited research for each of them: 1 - Peter BEACHY which was taken at the Steffey Studio in Alliance, OH in the 1880's. Hey George Another look-up yesterday! Sorry response time but the price is right. Finally got to it yesterday. It'd be better if these folks didn't run off somewhere else for their nuptial exercises............. There is no record of Cecil Leon Conrad, Elva B. Snow or Anna May Dunlap in Cowley County marriage during the periods you specify or 5 years before or after. I did find a record for Denzil L. Conrad but "Peggy" would seem to be a strange nickname for this woman? For what it's worth here's my finding. Book A29 Page 296 of the Cowley County Marriage Records indicates that Denzil L. CONRAD, age 22, of Winfield KS, was married to Freida Irene DAVIS, age 20, of Wellington KS were married in Cowley County Kansas on 11 June 1946. Hope this helps.... Hi again Rachel I did make it to the Cherokee Strip Museum genealogical room yesterday and I did find out a little more about the Speers. (not as much as I hoped) There were some burial "census" and abstracts of their obits but not much else. The Ark City Library should have the microfilm of the local paper but I wouldn't expect to find much more information than the indexed abstracts. I ran out of time and couldn't get there. Apparently Anna was their only living child and I wasn't able to find out what happened to her after her mother's death in 1925. I found no local evidence of her death or burial or any sign of a marriage in the 10 or so years after her mom's demise. Here's a summary of what I found: William *Henry* SPEERS was born in Ohio on *31 August 1837 *to David and Sarah (nee FRANKLIN) SPEERS and died in Arkansas City, Cowley, Kansas on 11 June 1917. Besides his widow and daughter, he was survived by *a brother Frank.* He is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Ark' City and shares a burial plot and tombstone with his wife Augusta L. (HAEDICKE) SPEERS, who was an Illinois born daughter of German immigrant parents, was born on 27 Jan 1846. She died in Arkansas City, Cowley, Kansas on *26 April 1925* and the only seeming survivor was her daughter Anna. Good Huntin' Darwin -- Darwin Newton Cambridge KS 620-467-2541

I'm assuming that you found him in Polk County Arkansas at Commonwealth College in April 1940 with his wife Nelly. Also a search of the Arkansas Death Index at familysearch.org verifies that was the place of death on the date you specified. You might want to google Commonwealth College as well. Looks like an interesting place. Darwin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A follow-up article published on 29 July 1935 identified him as "Glen Denison" of Topeka and indicated that he was still a patient and "improving" at Wm Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. I have a photo of some relatives that was taken near a cliff, we think. We are wondering if it was in the Cowley County area. Is there any way I can post the picture on the digest. We are also wondering where the town of Rock got it’s name. Our family had a farm near there and some of the sons lived near Rock and Douglas. Thank You Mary Lou Warren

Would you happen to know if other counties in Kansas have similar books on Marriages in that particular county for the time period of 1940 to 1955 ? Also I know Ernestine was living in Joplin, Missouri by September of 1941 when she filled out her SS-5 form and she was not married in Missouri I checked on Ancestry.
