Rider, 92, of Wakefield, Kan., formerly of Loveland, died June 24, 2004, at the Wakefield Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, Kan. He was born Feb. 9, 1912, on a farm near Junction City, Kan., to John and Daisy Keys Rider. He married Margaret Schneider on July 29, 1971. She preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 1990. He was a mechanic and service manager with Skinner Motor Co. until 1955, when he moved to Colorado. He was involved with several different business in Kittredge, Colo., and had owned and operated D&R Furniture and the Rosebud Motel in Loveland before retiring in 1977. He and his wife moved to Riley, Kan., in 1982 and to Wakefield four years ago. He was a member of the Riley United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Clay Center Elks, the Clay Center Masonic Lodge No. 134, the Salina ISIS Shrine Temple and the Kansas York Rite. He is survived by one son, Gene Rider and wife Norma of Windsor; one daughter, Rita Jeffryes and husband Doug of Wichita Falls, Texas; one brother, Richard Rider and wife Delores of Abilene, Kan.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Vernon Rider, and one sister, Helen Yarrow. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Alpine Cemetery, south of Osage City, Kan., with the Rev. Barbara Laflin officiating. Visitation will be any time Saturday and Sunday at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, 303 S. Broadway, Riley, Kan. The family will greet friends 3-4 p.m. Sunday, followed by Masonic services. A memorial has been established for the Riley United Methodist Church.
