WIckham II and I am the GGG-Granson of Benjamin Pierce Wickham who lived in Clay County Kansas up until his death in 1872. My GG-Grandfather Miles Wickham also lived there until his death in 1882. I would like to find out if Benjamin's tombstone is in Clay Center and if it shows who his father and mother where. If anyone can help I would appreciate it, since I live in Allen, Texas and do not get back to Kansas very often.

Hi, William. I located your family in the 1880 census and will be glad to send it to you off list if you don't already have it. Looks like B.P. Pierce and his family including son Miles were all living together except for one son and wife who had a farm next to them. Their census records indicate they were living in Gatesville Twp. just a little southeast of Clay Center. I would suggest looking at the cemetery records for Gatesville Cemetery and also Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center itself. Your contact would be Cathy Haney at the Clay County Historical Society. She is a wonderful person and has helped our family greatly with our searches. I do not know if she is on the internet, but I'm sure you could look the Hist. Society up in the Clay Center white pages on one of the on-line white pages. Just pick up the phone and call her. She's that kind of person, always glad to help. I believe she has the burial records for the Clay County cemeteries including plot maps for many Greenwood burials and lots of obits and newspaper clippings, census and tax records, etc. Regards, Jack Sanders, Eureka, KS ------------------------------------------- Researching all the SANDERS "boys" of Clay Center, KS - 1860+; and in England: SA(U)NDERS and CHART, E.Grinstead, Worth, Ssx; and Felbridge/Lingfield, Sry, pre 1500 - 1850 Also related families of BYSHE/BISH pre 1500 - 1850, Worth, Ssx and Horne, Godstone, Sry and TAYLOR, BUTCHER, FENNER, PAYN(E), same time period, in and around E.Grinstead.
