    1. [KSCLAY] 1895 State Census (Young Family)
    2. Jackie Lamorie
    3. Hi there, I really need some help with this family and the 1895 State Census. I know my Young family was in Clay County from 1885 to a little past 1900. I have the information off the 1885 census and the 1900 census. If someone could please look up the Joseph Young family in 1885 I would very much appreciate it. He was alive in 1885 but not in 1900 so if not under Joseph Young it would then be under Catharine Young. These are some of the children that would be listed. Mary age 23, Nettie age 18, Hattie age 14, Fonda age 10 (My grandmother). I am also hoping to find a Lizzie also Daniel Harmon age 25. The family was in Oakland township in 1885 and in Mulberry township in 1900. So guess in 1895 could be in either one. If anyone could please help me I would truly appreciate it. Thanks for any and all help. Will wait to hear. Thank you Jackie

    1. [KSCLAY] Daniel T. Boynton 1800's
    2. Todd Walter
    3. Searching for anything on Daniel T. Boynton who was a Unitarian Minister living in Oak Hill in 1886. This is the last I've found him and possibly he died in the area. I can't find Oak Hill on a current map so am not sure where it's close to. I'm not sure when he moved there, but possibly about 1870 and there may have been other family members there as well. Does anyone have the 1870 or 1880 census that could do a lookup for Boynton's in the area? Thanks, Todd in IL

    1. [KSCLAY] Boda-Kyrkby Sweden>Clay Centre> 1869-1884
    2. Hello listers: I'm new to your site - I just discovered three ancestors in the same family that emigrated from Sweden. The first one was Anders Olsson (b.1845) emigrated in 1869; The second one was his brother Erik Olsson (b. 1857) emigrated in 1880; and their third brother was Hans Olsson (b. 1850) who emigrated in 1884. I have found who I think they are on the Swedish Emigration CD - and they all list Clay Centre as their destination point. My questions are these: During this time range was there a likely place the Swedes would have settled? Was there any religous movement during that time that might account for their choosing this particular place? Are there mining operations in that area at that time? And most of all what type of records could I access there in your area that might give me some clues to finding the whereabouts of these brothers? Thanking anyone for their time extended in responding to these questions! - Kris Johnson-Burrill Michigan

B. Anderson is the only Anderson that might be a relative. (Or the relative could have been his wife, Malina Madison.) Other Anderson names I ran across - mostly on school records (early 1900) are Julie, Olie, Andrew, Mary, Minnie and Agnes. My grandparents lived in the Clifton area of Clay County, KS.

I'm at a brick wall with some of my research and I feel the door may be opened if I'm able to get hold of some obituaries, I've applied top Vital Records in KS for death certificate copies but unfortunately the dates preclude registration. Unfortunately I'm in (Bloody Hot!!) Melbourne (AU) and can't splip down the road to your wonderful historical society in Topeka. (I even purchased the book "Pioneers of the Bluestem Prairie" from a bookshop in California, on the net to help me, and what a mine of information it is (If anyone wants a look up I'm more than happy!!). Anyhow, is there a member of the List who could do some look up's for me on the deaths of these relies ??. I'm more than happy to cover any costs.....or come to any arrangements ??. They're all interred at the Greenwood Cemetery and I have the grave locations, dates of death, dates of birth etc' but what I need is miscellaneous information which may be contained in their obituary's. HEMPHILL Henry died January 21 1909 @ 81 Yrs, Buried Block 8, Lot 43, Greenwood Cem' Clay Co HEMPHILL Mary (aka Madgery), (nee johnston-his wife), died June 211884 buried in same plot HEMPHILL William J (Their son) d July 26 1925 @ 61 yrs. Unfortunately, Kansas didn't start recording birth certificates on a statewide basis until the 1900's - around 1911 I think. Thus I can't find my dad's (1891) or granddad's birth certificates (1868) but I can find the birth record of my 6x g.grandad in England in 1583 !! > (I even purchased the book "Pioneers of the Bluestem Prairie" from > a bookshop in California, on the net to help me, and what a mine of > information it is (If anyone wants a look up I'm more than > happy!!). Excellent book it is too, especially for someone researching in Clay County, Kansas and adjacent Riley County. An excellent place to check on obits for your HEMPHILLS and JOHNSTONS would be the Clay County Historical Society. I live 100 miles away or would be glad to do so. Address is Clay County Historical Society, 2121 7th Street, Clay Center, KS 67432. Phone is 785-632-3786. Cathy Haney is the curator and extremely helpful. Someone mentioned last year that there is now at least e-mail contact with the museum ccmuseum@oz-online.net I believe the Historical Society has duplicated records from the cemetery plus obits from the local newspaper running back to the very early days. In fact I found the burial info and obits on my SANDERS rellies there before I made the trip to the cemetery. Good luck in your searches. 1. [KSCLAY] From List Mom - 4th Quarterly Report 2001
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members: The Holiday Season is over and I am back home again. I want to thank each of you for helping to keep our list running smoothly while I was spending Christmas with three of my children and their families in Delaware and Maryland. I had a wonderful time but came down the flu the day after Christmas which turned in to pneumonia so my week away from you turned into over two weeks. I am doing better, still weak and coughing but on the road to better heath. One other problem while I was away, I had downloaded a huge amount messages on my laptop while in Delaware and my laptop crashed. If you tried to send me a personal message from the 23rd to the 30th of December, I lost it and you will need to re-send. It is time again for your last Quarterly Report for 2001 as to the membership of the KSCLAY Mailing List and additional items of interest. The KSCLAY Mailing List has 46 members, 35 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 11 to the Digest List. If you would like to visit the archived messages you may go to http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and type in KSCLAY. From there you can search by keyword. There is a great Rootsweb site you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ I want to thank each of you for continuing to help make this list the success it is. I also want to thank you for your support of me and your willingness to follow the list rules. I have been a List Mom now since 1997 and truly feel I have the best List Members out there who have subscribed to the Mailing Lists I take care of for Rootsweb. Just a reminder so this list is better for each of us the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as the first message from a member says Says "Happy Birthday Joan" and then Joan says "Thank you" and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Joan". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Please keep your Virus Scan updated as often as possible. If by chance one of our members unknowingly sends out a virus, please let me take care of it behind the scenes. Know that if you received it, I most likely did also. If you are concerned that I am not aware of the effected system, contact me personally KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please do not post to the entire list the name and e-mail address of the person you feel has the virus. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html I wish for each of you a success in the year 2002 with your most difficult genealogical mystery. 1. [KSCLAY] From List Mom Regarding:Influx Of New Online Genealogy Enthusiasts
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year again when we suddenly will have an influx of new online genealogy enthusiasts with their holiday gift computers that are usually newer and faster than what many of the rest of us have. For a great many of them, it will be their first time online. Some of them will make mistakes and some may (will) unintentionally do things and write things that may be irritating to us and against what we have set up as our list rules. Please take this into consideration in advance and be helpful to them. If things get out of hand, know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problems. Just remember, one of these new members might hold the clue you have been searching for. Let us not discourage them before they have a chance to learn how this works. I would like also to take this time to wish each of you and yours a wonderful and safe Holiday Season. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members We are experiencing another outbreak of the BADTRANS worm, computer virus. I've received over 25 messages with it myself this weekend. The subject line will be varied but the infected attachments have a double extension, for example .doc.pif or .doc.scr You can go to http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/ or http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ to obtain more information. Please keep your anti virus software updated and DO NOT download unexpected attachments no matter who they are from or how tantalizing the subject line may be. "The Docs I Promised" just may be the virus. I apologize for breaking my own rule regarding Virus Warnings, but felt in this case it was important that you were aware. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
