    1. [KSCLAY] The Old Priest Drug Store in Clay Center
    2. Sandra Lassen
    3. Hello, all, It's a long shot (because it's been a long time!), but if anyone out there has memories of the old Priest Drug Store, and its owner "Doc Ed" Priest (George Edward Priest) and his lovely wife Susan, who was choral director at the Episcopal Church and gave Sunday concerts on the courthouse grounds, I'd love to hear your stories. They were my great-grandparents and both died before I was born. I made one trip to Clay Center about 8 years ago and actually met one or two folks who had memories of them. Now that so many of us "rootdiggers" are on line, I thought I'd ask. Also, if any of you have old medicine bottles or any other souvenir of the Priest Drug Store, I would love to buy some for my children and grandchildren. Thank you. Sandra Lassen West Jefferson, NC

    1. [KSCLAY] From List Mom - A few thoughts and reminders
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is time again for one of my information messages. First of all I want to thank each of you who go out of your way to follow the list rules. I belong to many lists in my research and truly feel you are the best list members out there. If you are enjoying this list and would like to know what other genealogical lists Rootsweb has for you, go to John Fuller's site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html It is the best source for Genealogical mailing lists that I know of. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list or any Rootsweb List you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in the name of the list and from there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb list send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Naturally exchange the XXXX with the name of the list and the L with a D if you are on the Digest List. I have very few rules on the lists I take care of; the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, also Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and an ending date. The posting of virus warnings, chain letters, political announcements, current events and test messages are NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please remember that I am here, working behind the scenes. When an offending message is posted, just DELETE it. Know that I am most likely taking care of the problem personally with the person who posted the message. When you send your unhappiness to the list you just continue on the problem both for the members and for myself. If you are concerned that I have missed the message, you can send me a message at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Would you like to see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. I have shared it before but I am sure we have many new members since then. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif This is your list. I am only here to take care of it for you and to make sure it runs smoothly. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them to me. 3. Linda, I was unable to track down your Isabelle/Belle Austin or Gleed, I searched the Australian Vital Records, checked out the [State of] New South Wales of which Sydney is the capital city and I also checked the North American Vital Records Index, in particular for Iowa and then for the whole of the U.S, alas no hits at all. I've sent a separate email to you with an attachment giving details of other people with the surname Gleed and Austin which were found, related directly to the Australian Search. I wish you well with your on-going research Don in Melbourne

    1. [KSCLAY] Needing help finding an obituary
    2. Amanda H
    3. Hello everyone! This is my first time posting to the Clay County list, so I thought I would write in and see if anyone can help me. I'm looking for an obituary for my great-great grandmother, who I believe may have died while living in Idana, KS. Does anyone know who I can contact in the Clay County area or perhaps at any state archives that would be willing to search through any of the local newspapers that would have been around in September of 1913? Any help would be greatly appreciaed. Thanks all! _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    1. [KSCLAY] From List Mom - A few items to help you.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the archived messages of this list or any other Rootsweb mailing list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is, when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents when they send their unhappiness to the entire list. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me.
