    3. Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other genealogical mailing list available, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. If you are having problem and I do not answer you right away, know that I will. I like many of you work full time outside of my home. I am fortunate that I can check my e-mail any time I wish, but know that there are spaces of time I cannot. I always check my e-mail each and every evening and will respond to message as quickly as possible. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. On the other hand when the entire message is in CAPS we feel that we are being yelled at. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. 7. If your list has the gateway open, meaning the messages posted on the board also hit he list, know that every once in a while a SPAM message that is caught by the Board filter slips through the gateway and hits the list before it can be stopped. JUST DELETE IT. By responding to the list regarding he offending message, you just continue it on, and there is not one thing I can do about it at that point. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. 1. Off but Really On-Topic
    2. Don Johnston
    3. Many of us have Mum’s & Dad’s and will relate, certainly I do with experience; however I also have spoken with some lovely people in nursing homes or the like when researching personal information, like many of us do an this prose re-confirmed my sometime sadness when I am privileged to talk and share with my Elders, those with “Live and gusty knowledge of times past:. Don in Melbourne AU An old Lady's Poem When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near Dundee, Scotland, it was believed that she had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through her meagre possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Ireland. The old lady's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the North Ireland Assn' for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on her simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old Scottish lady, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this "anonymous” poem winging across the Internet: The Old Woman What do you see, nurses? What do you see? What are you thinking, When you're looking at me? A crabby old woman, Not very wise, Uncertain of habit, with faraway eye. Who dribbles her food, and makes no reply, when you say in a loud voice, "I do wish you'd try!" Who seems not to notice, the things that you do, and forever is losing, a stocking or shoe? Who, resisting or not, Lets you do as you will, with bathing and feeding, the long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse, you’re not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am, As I sit here so still, As I do at your bidding, As I eat at your will. I'm a small child of ten, with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters, who love one another. A young girl of sixteen, with wings on her feet, dreaming that soon now, a lover she'll meet. A bride soon at twenty, My heart gives a leap, Remembering the vows, That I promised to keep At twenty-five now, I have young of my own, Who need me to guide, And a secure happy home. A woman of thirty, my young now grown fast, Bound to each other, with ties that should last. At forty, my young sons, Have grown and are gone, But my man's beside me, to see I don't mourn. At fifty once more, Babies play round my knee, again we know children, my loved one and me. Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead, I look at the future, and I shudder with dread. For my young are all rearing, Young of their own, and I think of the years, and the love that I've known. I'm now an old woman, and nature is cruel, 'Tis jest to make old age, Look like a fool. The body, it crumbles, Grace and vigour depart, and there is now a stone, where I once had a heart. But inside this old carcass, a young girl still dwells, and now and again, my battered heart swells. I remember the joys, I remember the pain, and I'm loving and living, Life over again. I think of the years, all too few, gone too fast, and accept the stark fact, that nothing can last. So open your eyes, people, Open and see, not a crabby old woman; Look closer. See ME!! Remember this poem when you next meet an old person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there, too! -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.322 / Virus Database: 266.11.17 - Release Date: 25/05/2005

Clagett (Could be Claggett, depending on how he spelled it that week) who married a Miss ALLISON around August 1911 in Kansas? She was from Clay Center, and may have had a brother/step-brother named Roy Hill (although he may have been the ex-wife's brother). When Thomas died at the Commercial Hotel in Topeka, on 30 October 1911, he was traveling with Roy. He was interred on 01 November 1911, in Clay Center. Anyone who may have access to Topeka or Clay Center newspapers with the details of his death, or marriage information on the CLAGETT-ALLISON wedding is urged to please reply. Margaret is indeed buried in that cemetery with the date of death that I had. When I first thought about posting a look-up request on this message board, I didn't think I would get any help. It seemed as though most of the messages did not receive a reply. Now I see that they might have received a direct reply instead of on this message board. So a big thank you to the one that helped me. J.

    3. G'day Sheryl, I have to agree with Jack Sanders in applauding your work in making so much information available to the Group, I do have empathy in how much of a thankless task it is but this bloke from Melbourne in Australia appreciates it very much, ironically my cousin in Adelaide [AU] scanned through your up load and we too found some "New" information we didn't have so we were rapt! I am always in awe that we have Administrators who contribute so much hard work for others and are selfless in their tasks, moreso for people so far away who relish in anything new what comes out of a place so far way from us here in Australia. I wish I could spend all my time on Clay County, but I have three other Kansas counties, four in Minnesota and a couple in Oklahoma, so I have to try to make time for all my "babies". The library here allows me to make copies at no charge, since I do a little volunteering there, so getting census copies is no big deal. I just don't like to do a lot at one time and take advantage of their generosity, so I will just be putting a few townships at a time. Today I added Garfield, Gill, Goshen, Grant and Hayes townships. There were also Rutherfords about the same time (Hannah Johnston McCully's sister Margaret) and also their older sister Marjorie Johnston Hemphill. I would love to have some informatin on when they arrived, where they lives, and when they died, etc. With thanks, GIllian
