I wish I could help you with your question, but I don't know. I just wanted to say that I am so happy to finally see someone post to this list. I wish we could some way get it a little more active. I am researching Atha, Proctor, Porter, McCulley, Runyan, Draper all in the Bourbon County area. I lived in the Bourbon County area for about 25 years and it will be forever in my heart. Connie King
Connie: I will be happy to post to this list again. I am looking for any information on JAMES M. HAGANS who married DELILAH JANE REOOK (ROARK?) in Bourbon Co., KS in 1857. They had four children while there; JEMIMA A. HAGANS, MARY HAGANS, CHARLES F. HAGANS AND SARAH HAGANS. Charles F. Hagans married Julia A. Cockrell in 1883 in Cass Co. MO but later moved back to KS. I would appreciated any information on these people. Thanks, Peggy
After searching the Kansas website, I believe I answered my own question. Could anyone tell me if the community of Marion is still thriving. I noticed a listing for a cemetery, a historical school and a township of Marion (I assume some sort of gov. building). I know I am full of questions. I hope it is not too annoying. Thank You. Good afternoon fellow Kansas researchers, I have found out through an immigration index that my greatgrandfather Rene MAENHOUT lived in/near Marion, Kansas in 1905.. I noticed a cemetery in Bourbon county called Marion Cemetery (Uniontown). This is the area where Rene worked and later had a farm. Can anyone tell me if there was a community named Marion in this area? or Should I consider the Marion stated in the index to be near the one further west on today's maps? Help please. Thank You. :-) Marlene MAENHOUDT STRUBE Germantown, TN mbstrube@memphisonline.com
I have a copy of the Clarksburg Cemetary record book for Bourbon Co., KS and would be glad to do lookups for you. This cemetary is in the Ft. Scott twp. on the border of Dry Creek twp. Everyone has done me so many favors that its my turn to reciprocate. Karla Collinsworth dolly@thegrid.net
Hello everyone. I am new to the list. My greatgrandparent (Rene MAENHOUT and Alena BAERT) settled in Bourbon County. I am looking forward to the ongoing information and discussions on this list. I just wanted to say hello. Marlene MAENHOUDT STRUBE Germantown, TN mbstrube@memphisonline.com
This is a repeat request for any who did not see it the last time. I am looking for the death date and burial place of DAVID FORD. He was listed on the 1880 Scott Township Census as living in the household of Levi Ballou. He was the father of Malinda Ballou, wife of Levi. I would appreciate any help, and will share info with anyone. I am seeking information on William Porter, born 1/5/1864 in Deson, Iowa-died 9/14/1932 in Bourbon County, Kansas. (my g-grandfather) He was married to Martha Jane Proctor, born 3/8/1866 and died on 12/10/1953 in Bourbon County, Kansas. They are both buried at Lath Branch Cemetary (just east of Fort Scott) which I have been led to believe the land was donated by the Proctors at some point in time. According to his obituary, Fannie Hall is listed as his mother. No father is listed. There was also a Charles Porter born in the later part of the century whose father was James Richard Porter (a full blooded Cherokee). I can't seem to tie in how these Porters fit in together, but I do have an obituary for Charles which lists his father as James Richard, so they must have all been related somehow as they were all in the same box of obituaries my aunt had saved. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.
Am working on the families of Justice/Justus of Bourbon Co, and the family of Womelsdorf of Bourbon Co. Anyone else working on these lines? They were in the Barnesville region and sometimes in Linn Co, KS. Nancy nmorebeck@jps.net
So glad to have this Bourbon Co. mail list! I am researching the ATHA's. They moved to Bourbon Co. in 1900 from Hardin Co., Ohio. So far as I can surmise, William Thomas Atha b. 1841 in OH, came west with his wife Anjinette Morse Atha b. 1844 OH, and two of their children Mary Delpha Atha b. 1881, OH and John B. Atha b. 1874, Ohio. William Thomas Atha and his wife are buried at the Clarksburg Cemetary in Scott Twp. near Garland. I would love to exchange data with anyone that might have interest in this family. I have much more information. Karla dolly@thegrid.net

My GGgrandparents, James M. Hagans (b. 1834) and Delilah Jane Reook or Roark (b. 1842) were married 25 May 1857 in Bourbon Co., KS. It took me years of searching to find Delilah Jane because my mother was told that her mother, Jemimah, who was the first dau of Delilah Jane and James M. Hagans, had been left on a door step so no one knew her real name. And then when I found the marriage record I couldn't read her last name! Some have even translated it as Brook. Please is there anyone who has information on this? Thanks, Peggy
I thought I'd introduce myself since I recently decided to establish this list. My name is Edward A. Black, Sr. and I established this list for those who desire to contact others who have like desires in locating family members or doing other genealogical rersearch in Bourbon County, Kansas. My interest in Bourbon Co., KS comes because my wife's mother was born and raised in Ft. Scott, KS. Her mother and grandmother also lived there at one time. Various family members (aunts, uncles & cousins) have continued to live in the Ft. Scott area to this day. I myself was born and raised in California where my parents moved to after World War II. I currently live in Lancaster, California and have been married 27-1/2 years, having raised a son, who himself is married and has 2 sons of his own. He lives in McAllen, TX. I have found that the lists I've taken part in have helped a lot in locating family members on either my own or that of my wife's family. My surnames that I am looking information up on are PATTERSONs, McMAINS, and the HOBSONs. A few related to the McMAINS are still in the area. Enjoy this new site and I do hope that it will assist you users with your genealogical work. It is intended to be a tool for that purpose. Take care & God Bless, Sincerily, Edward A. Black, Sr.
