The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday November 1, 1879 The council and citizens' joint committee on coal shaft held a conference in this city Monday evening, with George MORLEY, of Barnard, in reference to sinking the coal shaft in La Cygne. The contract which the committee authorized Mayor DONALDSON to draft, was presented to Mr. Morley. He seemed satisfied, but thought best to have legal advice beofre signing it. A public meeting will be held next Wednesday evening, at Williamson's hall to further consider the subject of digging for coal, to which all interested in the project are invited. If the proposed contract is signed by Mr. Morley it will be ample security to the contributors of the thousand dollars that the work will be faithfully performed. Everything seems favorable now for the success of the enterprise, which insure a "boom" of much importance for the wide-awake city of La Cygne.
