The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday December 22, 1910 Death of Mell Hefty. After a very brief illness Mell HEFTY aged 53 years died suddenly at his home at Half Mound Tuesday afternoon. The cause of his death was heart failure due to pneumonia. He attended the funeral of Mrs. Freeland last Friday but went home with a chill. Sunday a physician was called, when it was found that his condition was serious. Mr. Hefty was a prominent farmer an stockman on Coal Creek, where he had lived for over thirty years, a leader in church and best civic life. The funeral will be held from the Coal Creek Evangelical church Friday at one o'clock, Rev. Berhinger officiating. The burial will be in the cemetery nearby.
