The Topeka Daily State Journal Tuesday May 7, 1918 Norton Loses Soldier. Walter Harmonson Died Few Days After Going to Camp. Norton, Kan., May 7.--Norton mourns the loss of its first soldier boy today, Walter Harmonson, 26 years old. He left Monday of last week with twenty others for Camp Funston, apparently in good health, but was stricken with pneumonia Saturday morning and died there Sunday afternoon. Harmonson was a most exemplary young man and it was a sad blow to his widowed mother and to this community where he was born and reared.
