The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday April 13, 1878 Mound City has a military company. The Clarion furnishes the names of the officers and other information as follows: "First Lieutenant, R.B. BRYAN; First Sergeant, Theo. BOTKIN; Secnond Sergeant, G.W. COUTS; Third Sergeant, George W. JONES; Fourth Sergeant, W.W. AUSTIN; First Corporal, Will VERTEES; Second Corporal, Dolph BALDWIN; Third Corporal, I.N. DOW; Fourth Corporal, Frank MORRISON. The necessary returns have been made to the Governor of the State, and as soon as the commission of the commanding officer is received and he is regularly mustered, application will be made to the Governor for arms. He agreed to furnish the improved needle gun."
