The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday February 14, 1880 During the early part of last week several young gentlemen of this city received invitations form a correspondinig number of young ladies to attend a leap year party, on Friday evening, February 6, at the residence of H.W. COOPER. We have yet to hear of one of the requests for company being declined. At the appointed time the ladies called for their partners and gallantly escorted the quiet "youths" to Mr. Cooper's, where with the hearty co-operation of Mr. Cooper and wife the guest enjoyed a pleasant evening in conversation, games, charades, etc. Among the et ceteras was included a delightful luncheon, the serving of which was abundant proof of the superior ability of Mrs. Cooper and her daughter, Miss Orie, to provide anything in the way of eatables. Aside from the host and hostess the following were present: Messrs. T.N. MARSHALL, Charley HALL, C.Q. LEWIS, A.R. CARY, J.F. DELLINGER, Chauncy HARMON, R.A. COOPER, George BRYSON and a representative of the Journal. The ladies, who have to be mentioned last, as this wa a leap year party, were Misses Orie COOPER, Hattie HAWK, Josie E. BLOOD, Lizzie HUNGERFORD, Ida HOWARD, Carrie LANE, Minnie HAMLIN, Mamie MILLER, Kate HISEY, and Emma COOPER, who is too young yet to have a beau, but was no "wall flower," for all that. After the party the ladies escorted the gentlemen to their respective homes and then sought their own abodes without masculine attendance.
