    1. [KS-OLD-NEWSPAPERS] An Assault and A Shooting--GIBBS, FAIRCHILD
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The Oskaloosa Independent Jefferson County Saturday October 14, 1876 On last Saturday, Pink GIBBS came up behind W.S. FAIRCHILD, while he was sitting on the south steps of the court house and struck him twice with a stone, once on the arm, and once on the back of the head and neck. Seth sprang up, a little bewildered by the last blow--and drew his pistol. Pink started to run. Seth fired and Pink fell as though he had been shot, but scrambled up and run like a trooper. Seth cocked his pistol to fire again; but reflected a moment and did not. Pink's brother came threateningly towards Seth, but when the pistol was presented, prudently desisted from any hostile act. Pink and Seth wer each fined a dollar and cost. The difficulty grew out of something that occured at the ball in the court house Thursday evening--whisky, we guess.
