    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday October 30, 1918 Horsewhips Husband. Mrs. Harry French Resents Testimony at Trial. Neighbors in the vicinity of 1108 Harriosn street were aroused yesterday afternoon by screams from the house, and when they ran in they found Mrs. Harry FRENCH, armed with a large whip, fighting with her husband, from whom she recently parted. Both the sheriff and the police were called, but no arrests were made. The whipping Mrs. French undertook to give her husband is said to have been the outgrowth of a recent trial in the Shawnee county district court, in which she was refused a divorce. In a statement, Mrs. French said yesterday afternoon that her attack on her husband was premediated, that she had sent word she would do it, and had sent a servant to buy the whip during the forenoon yesterday. Mrs. French gave her reason for the action that untrue stories had been told concerning her at the trial.

    1. [KS-OLD-NEWSPAPERS] Death; David JONES
    2. Jim Laird
    3. The Oskaloosa Independent Jefferson County Thursday August 21, 1875 David JONES died at his residence on Rock Creek, Jefferson county, Ks., August 8th, 1875. Was born in Wales, 1816. Parents emigrated to Canada when deceased was five years of age, from there to Ottawa, Ill., from there to Potosi, Grant Co., Wis., where he united with the M.E. church. There he married his first wife, who lived only three years after marriage. About 27 years ago he married his present wife, the family emigrating to Kansas and locating at Lawrence. He suffered many privations to which the early settlers were subject, and narrowly escaped with his life at the burning of Lawrence. Bro. Jones was a friend to the afflicted, for he was the subject of great affliction himself, and could properly sympathize with the suffering. Was a kind husband, and indulgent father and a good neighbor. He leaves a wife and four children here, and numerous relations and friend in the East to mourn his loss. We trust he died in the triumphs of the Christian faith, and that our loss is his eternal gain. Let us meet him in Heaven. T.P. Pitzer.

The groom is a young farmer of near Waldo, and has the friendship and esteem of everyone there. While he is a stranger to most of us, we know that he is in every way worthy of the bride of his choice. The marriage is a termination of a courtship that sprung up between the two while they were attending one of the eastern schools together.
