The Centerville Echo Linn County Thursday April 4, 1907 Tuesday evening shortly after the shades of night settled over the little villiage of Centerville and all was hushed in silence, the death angel in his silent mystic manner, visited the home of Henry SMITH and took away the Spirit of Grandma. She closed her eyes, ceased to breathe and life was over. She had been sick for a long time but apparently was some better on Tuesday and seemed to be quite cheerful, and when the sad news was communicated to the different homes it caused suspense and many a tear drop fall; as she was such a devoted Christian, and so kind and helpful to all when she was able to do any work at all. Her cheering words and smiling face will linger long in the memory of friends and loved ones. She has said on many occasions that she was ready to cross the river of death when summoned and most certainly hers was a peaceful death. She was born at Columbus, Ohio, July 11th, 1832. Died April 2, 1907, making her 74 years old. She was the mother of 5 children, all having preceded her excepting one. She leaves an aged husband, one son, several grand children, beside many friends to mourn her death. She has left the church militant to join the church trumphant. A Card of Thanks. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our many friends for their kind and words to mother and us during her illness and death. Henry Smith, Geo. W. Smith.

The Colby Free Press Thomas County Thursday August 26, 1915 Killed. A man was killed at Morland on the Union Pacific last week. He had just come in from the harvest field and had some money and other valuables with him. He was attacked and brutally killed with a razor and club and thrown in a ditch. A man of bad reputation was caught with the murdered mans watch and some money in his possession but refused to make any statements. There is no punishment too severe for the guilty party as the case was a plain one of robbery where the object was money that had been honestly earned by hard labor.
