    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday September 7, 1922 Hoffman-Yelton. A marriage of interest to many Harper people, occurred at Wichita, Monday, August 28th, when Miss Rosella HOFFMAN of Valley Center, Kansas became the bride of Mr. Barton YELTON, formerly of this city. The marriage taking place at the home of the officiating minister. Mrs. Yelton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman of Valley Center, Kansas and a charming young lady. She has been employed with the Standard Oil Co. of Wichita as stenographer for the past year. Mr. Yelton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Y.A. Yelton of this city and is well and favorably known. He attended the Harper schools and for the last year has been employed with the Cudahay Packing Co. of Wichita, where he holds a responsible position. Their many friends here extend hearty congratulations to the young couple who will make their home in Wichita for the present.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 14, 1910 Death of Mrs. Henry Faulk. Mrs. Henry FAULK died at her home at Larkinburg, Ks., July 12, 1910, aged 48 years. Carrie SCHADT was married at Valley Falls, 25 years ago to Henry FAULK. To them five daughters were born all of whom survive the mother. The cause of her death was cancer of the stomach. The funeral was held from the Christian church at Larkingburg Wednesday and burial in the cemetery near by.

The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday November 1, 1879 The council and citizens' joint committee on coal shaft held a conference in this city Monday evening, with George MORLEY, of Barnard, in reference to sinking the coal shaft in La Cygne. The contract which the committee authorized Mayor DONALDSON to draft, was presented to Mr. Morley. He seemed satisfied, but thought best to have legal advice beofre signing it. A public meeting will be held next Wednesday evening, at Williamson's hall to further consider the subject of digging for coal, to which all interested in the project are invited. If the proposed contract is signed by Mr. Morley it will be ample security to the contributors of the thousand dollars that the work will be faithfully performed. Everything seems favorable now for the success of the enterprise, which insure a "boom" of much importance for the wide-awake city of La Cygne.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday November 1, 1879 Mr. F.W. WARD and Miss Belle PROCTOR were united in marriage, at 7:30 o'clock a.m., October 27, 1879, at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. J.S. Proctor, of Scott township, this county, Rev. Charles Adair, of Osawatomie, being the officiating clergyman in charge. The happy couple started the same morning for Buffalo, Wilson county, this State. Mr. Ward at one time the editor of the Linn County Tribune, formerly published in La Cygne, and the bride is one of Scott township's best known daughters. The Journal tenders thanks for a sample of the delicious wedding cake and wishes Mr. and Mrs. Ward may live long and joyously.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 30, 1906 Mrs. Jane Towns. Jane ANGLIN was born in Virginia, Dec. 15, 1831. At twelve years of age she moved with her parents to Koscinsko, Ind. In June 1853 she was married to John TOWNS. In 1869 they moved to Nebraska, from there to Washington County, Kans., where she resided till death called her home. To this union ten chidlren were born, four daughters and two sons and several grandchildren survive her. At an early age she united with the Christian church and lived a constant Christian life. She died calling the name of the Lord. Albert L. Young conducted the funeral service at the Blocker church March 23, 1906, at 3 p.m. The relatives wish to thank the friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted them in their time of trouble. (Note: Original printing in newspaper lists funeral services held on March 23, 1896; since that is obviously a printing error, I changed it to reflect the appropriate year.)

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 30, 1906 Mrs. Potter. Mary Ann CASHNER was born Jan. 25, 1831, in the state of Pennsylvania and was married to William POTTER, Feb. 5, 1852. To this union there was born six children, two of whom passing away in infancy. Mrs. Potter was converted when she was fifteen years old, and joined the Evangelical church. She died March 25th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. JONES. The funeral services conducted by Dr. George Hageman were held on Tuesday afternoon and were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. The sympathy of all, is extended to the bereaved ones.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 23, 1906 Frank Ballard. Word was received here Wednesday of the death of Frank BALLARD, of Little Blue Township. Mr. Ballard has been ill since the latter part of last week and the doctors pronouced his trouble appendicitis. He wa operated on, three doctors and a nurse from St. Joseph being in attendence. He died Wednesday as a result of the operation.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 23, 1906 Mrs. James. Mrs. JAMES, of Hastings, Neb., sister of Mrs. J.C. MORROW, died here Wednesday morning in the Morrow home. For a number of years Mrs. James has been a sufferer of asthma, and last fall went to Yuma, Colo., where she received treatment in a sanitarium. Two weeks ago Mrs. Murrow was called to the bedside of her sister at Yuma, and a week later brought her home with her where she received al lthe care and attention that loving hands could bestow. After a short funeral service at the Morrow home Thursday morning conducted by Dr. Hageman, the remains were taken to Haddam and buried beside her mother and sister. Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. SOUTHARD, of Ohio, sisters of the deceased survive her.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 23, 1906 Mrs. McLaren. Susan CREIGHTON was born in Amulree, Perthshire, Scotland, Jan. 3, 1825, married James McLaren Jan. 1849, and in the same year united with the Presbyterian church, came to Fond du Lac, Wis., in 1852, and in 1869 moved to Washington county, Kansas, where she died March 15th, aged 81 years. She leaves a daughter and two sons to mourn her loss, her husband and two daughters having preceeded her. The funeral was held in the Morrowville church on March 16th, conducted by Dr. Hageman, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 16, 1906 Mrs. Ida Olandt. Mrs. Ida OLANDT was born in Monroe Co., Wisconsin in 1863 and died March 12, 1906, of cancer after an illness of six months. The services wer held Wednesday from the M.P. church and were conducted by Rev. Strickler, the remains laid to rest in the Haddam cemetery. She leaves a husband, mother, father, three sisters, and two brothers to mourn here loss.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday March 9, 1906 William M. Pittman. William Morgan PITTMAN, subject of this sketch, was born in Huntsville, Jackson Co., Alabama, March 2nd, 1836, and died at his home in Blue Rapids, March 4th, 1906, age 70 years. He made his home in Tennessee until the year of 1864. He enlisted in the 2nd United States Infantry at Rock Island, Ill., and served one year and was honorably discharged. He moved to Bond County, Ill., on the 23rd of April, 1866. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Jane REED. To them were born five children, but only two are living,--Mrs. A. ANDERSON, of Blue Rapids, Kans., and James Arthur, of Hanover, Kans. In the year of 1867 they came to this state and settled on a farm near Hanover, Kans., and remained until 1899, then removed to Blue Rapids, Kan., shortly after his wife died. March 5, 1901, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Laura SAWYER of Washington, Kans. He was a member of the Robert Hale Post, No. 328 of Blue Rapids, Kans.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday October 26, 1879 Edith McWILLIAMS, aged three years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. McWILLIAMS, died on Friday morning of last week after a short illness. She was attended by Drs. J.R. Divelbiss, S.B. Divelbiss, and J.M. Welch, but her disease baffled medical skill and the parents are called to mourn the untimely death of their only child. Mr. McWilliams was at Canon City, Colo., when she died, and was summoned here by telegraph, arriving in La Cygne on Sunday evening. The funeral took place on the following day, being conducted by Rev. J.M. Baugher, pastor of the Methodist church. (Typed as printed in newspaper.)

The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday October 11, 1879 The body of a very young infant was found, about noon, by two young boys, Charley FUNK and Freddie PLATTS, in the Marais des Cygnes river, near the grist mill, this city. An inquest was subsequently held, the same day, before J.V. DONALDSON, justice of the peace, who acted as Coroner. The following jurors were summoned: J.P. WAY, W.H. JUDSON, J.C. BRYSON, H.F. HAMLIN, A.L. MICHAELS and William MILLER. Dr. R.G. MNDENHALL viewed the corpse and pronounced it that of a colored baby. The jury also viewed the remains, after which they were buried. The discovery is the undoubted revelation of a crime, and before returning a verdict, the Coroner's jury will wait for evidence to show who the perpetrators or participants in the affair may be.

    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday August 31, 1922 Brown--Goodman. The marriage of Miss Sylvia BROWN and Mr. Cleo GOODMAN was solemnized at Anthony last Monday afternon in the presence of Mrs. SMITH, the bride's mother and Mrs. Goodman, and Miss Mandy Brown. Probate Judge Hawk performing the ceremony that united the young couple. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Smith of this city and is a young lady who is well adapted to her duties of home-maker. She has made Harper her home for a number of years and has a host of friends in this city. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Goodman. Cleo is one of the hardest working and most industrious young men in the city, having been employed with his father on the dray line for a number of years. The young couple will make their home at the Elvin place on East Main.

    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday August 31, 1922 Guitgey--Kastor. Miss Wilma GUITGEY and Mr. Charlie KASTOR were united in marriage by the Rev. Melvin Dorsett Saturday evening at six o'clock at the home of the groom's mohter. Only members of the immediate families were present. Mrs. Kastor is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Guitgey of Anthony. She was a member of the 1921 class of Southwestern College. She is a talented young lady of pleasing personality. Mr. Kastor has spent the most of his life here and is a young man of sterling qualities. He graduated from the Harper High School in 1917 and from Southwestern College in 1921. The past year he was a successful instructor in the schools at Douglas. The young couple left immediately for Wichita. They will be at home after September 11th, at Valley Center where Mr. Kastor will be employed as instructor in the schools.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday July 7, 1910 Died--McCoy. John McCOY, died in Franklin county, Ohio, June 19, 1910 after a lingering illness in his 87th year, on the farm on which he located in 1849. He was the father of Will H. McCOY of Valley Falls and Al McCOY now at Emporia. He served three years in the 95th Ohio regiment in the Civil war, and the record of his life as a soldier is cherished. He was married three times, and is survived by a widow, children and many grandchildren. He was of the Methodist faith since early manhood.
