    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 15, 1910 Death of Geo. W. Hull. George Washington HULL was born in Licking county, Ohio, December 13, 1837, and after a lingering illness died at his home in Valley Falls, Sunday September 11, 1910, aged 62 years, 8 months, and 28 days. He was a veteran of the civil war, enlisting in the 31st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Oct. 1861. He served about one year when he was discharged on account of sickness. In 1863 he reenlisted. He was captured in Virginia and wa a prisoner nine months. In the Fall of 1863 he was married to Miss Eliza Ellen LYNCH. To this union two children were born, Georgie E. McDONALD of Bolivar, Mo., and Adam I. HULL of Valley Falls. Mr. Hull came to Kansas in the spring of 1868, locating on a farm near Valley Falls in or near where he has since resided. He wife dying March 31, 1893, he was re-married Sept. 5, 1894 to Mrs. Mary VANDRUFF of Valley Falls, who survives him. The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon, Rev. Geo B. Drake of the Congregational church officiating at the services after which the local Post of the G.A.R. conducted the services at the grave, abotu 29 of the veterans being present.

    3. The Washington Register Thursday January 21, 1904 Chas. M. LEE was born October 2, 1842, in the state of New York and died January 15, 1904, in this city. Mr. Lee enlisted in the 2nd Wisconsin cavalry, Decembre 15, 1861 and at the expiration of this term of service in January, 1865, was discharged at Memphis, Tenn., and afterwards became a sailor. He was married July 4, 1871, to Miss Fanny BARNES, who with an adopted daughter, Mrs. John Hawk, still survives him. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. D. A. Leeper, at the M.E. church Sunday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. and the remains were placed at rest in the city cemetery. Death was caused by heart failure and the bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a large number of friends in this sorrow.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday June 12, 1880 A stabbing affray, in which H.A. ROBINSON, of Mound City, received nine serious gashes about the head and face, from William McALLISTER, of Scott township, occurred last Saturday at the residence of A. GARL, seven miles west of La Cygne. It is said that the cause of the attack was jealousy in a love affair, and that after McAllister had seen what he had done he regretted the assault. Dr. J.M. WELCH, of this city, was called upon to dress the wounds of the afflicted man. Mr. Robinson is about 24 years old. We understand that he is connected with the management of the county poor farm. McAllister fled the county to escape arrest.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday June 12, 1880 Miss Electa Ann MATTHEWS died Sunday at her home about four miles north of Fontana. She was 28 years of age. Rev. H.M. Greene conducted the funeral services Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, Fontana. The remains of the deceased were buried at the Fontana cemetery.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 Mrs. Anna DOWNING died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Henry COOK, east of town Friday morning after a few hour's illness. Funeral services were held at the R.P. church, Rev. Jeffrey preaching the sermon, and she was laid to rest in the Hull cemetery. Those from abroad who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. CECIL of Goff, Miss Jessie DOWNING of Kansas City, Lem KEATON and family of Independence, Kansas, Will KEATON of Leavenworth besides relatives from St. Joseph and Kansas City.

The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 Miss Lela COPPINGER and Mr. Evan BOYD were married at the home of the bride's father at eight o'clock Wednesday eveing, August 31, Rev. J.D. Zimmerman officiating. Ice cream, cake and punch were served after congratulations. Mrs. Boyd is the youngest daughter of W.B. Coppinger and has been her father's housekeeper the past two years and Mr. Boyd is the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boyd. A reception was tendered the happy pair Thursday evening at the home of the groom's parents and Saturday they left for a trip to Colorado Springs. Those present from abroad were: Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES of Seneca, C. Coppinger and family and Ed SLOOP and family of Lyndon, Miss Catherine McDERMOND of Nortonville and relatives from McLouth. The best wishes follow them.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 Miss Aida THORNBURG and Mr. G. Esmond FRAZIER of Sparta, Illinois, wer married at the home of bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Thornburg, at eight o'clock Wednesday evening, Rev. W.N. Leiper of Wichita assisted by Rev. Albert Curry officiating. After congratulations ice cream and cake were served. The happy couple left Friday evening for their home in Sparta, Illinois, where the groom has the home in readiness. Congratulations are extended.

The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 Salena McCRAY was born in Ray county, Mo., March 1st, 1832 and died at her home near Valley Falls, Kan., Sept. 4th, 1910, aged 78 years, 6 mo. and 3 days. She was married in Buchanan county, Mo., to Zachariah S. MILLER, Sept. 4th, 1851, where they experienced the hardships of the first Settlers of Kansas. They came to Jefferson county in 1871, where they have since resided. To them were born eight children, seven sons and one daughter, of whom 5 are living, the living being Henry L, Hiram G., Elisha J., Robert L. and William H. She united with the Missionary Baptist church when 18 years of age, and by letter, to the Cumberland Prebyterian church in 1856, and with the M.E. church at Gregg's chapel in 1903. She was a faithful and devoted christian and a kind and loving wife and mother. H.M. The funeral was held from the M.E. church at Valley Falls, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. I.N. Tinnell of Arrington, assisted by the local pastor, officiating at the services in the presence of a large company of friends and relatives. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Card of Thanks. We wish to sincerely thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy in our bereavement and loss of dear wife and mother. Zachariah Miller and sons, Henry L., Hiram G., Elisha J., Robert L., and William H. Miller.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 Death of Mrs. Geo. Pettitt. After a lingering illness, Mrs. Harriet S. PETTITT, widow of Geo. Pettitt, died Sunday evening, Sept. 4, 1910, at the home of her son, Hiram T. Pettitt, in east Ozawkie township, aged 76 years. For nineteen years she had been a widow, and was well known in this part of the county, the family being among the oldest settlers. The funeral was held from the Ozawkie home Tuesday and the burial in Rose Hill cemetery, at Valley Falls, by the side of her long lost husband. She is survived by her two sons, Hiram T. and J.W. Pettitt of this county, and one daughter, Mrs. Jennie MILLER of Topeka.

    3. The Valley Falls New Era Jefferson County Thursday September 8, 1910 S.T. Butner Dead. S.T. BUTNER, formerly of Valley Falls, died at his home at Highland, Doniphan County, Kansas, September 1st, after a lingering illness. HE was 68 years old He is the father of Mrs. Wm. G. HAUCK of Valley Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Hauck attended the funeral at Highland last Firday, Mrs. Hauck remaining there this week. Mr. Butner with his family came to Valley Falls in the early 90's form Arkansas and lived here a number of years, a good and respected citizen.

    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday September 20, 1928 Knowles--Hunter. In the presence of a small group of intimate friends, Miss Frances Fenton KNOWLES, daughter of Mrs. Effie S. Knowles, 99 North Madison Ave., became the bride of Robert Raymon HUNTER of Enid, Okla., last evening, September 11th. Rev. George B. Cliff, assistant pastor of First Methodist Church read the service at the home of the bride's mother. The bride, who was unattended, wore a frock of blue Maline and carried a bouquet of sweet peas. The bride is a graduate of Orton School for Girls and of the University of California at Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter left for Enid where Mr. Hunter is in business and where they will live.--Pasadena (Calif.) Star-News. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hunter are well known here, Mrs. Hunter having lived here the great part of her life prior to moving to California, attending public schools and the Harper College for a number of years. Mr. Hunter is a the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Hunter who reside in the Pilot Knob neighborhood. He attened the scholls here and was a graduate of the high schoold with the class of 1919. He was employed with the First National Bank of this icty prior to moving to Enid. Both these young people have the best wishes of their many friends.

    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday September 20, 1928 Walker--Dewitte. A very pretty wedding occurred Saturday evening, Sept. 15th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Walker when their eldest daughter, Miss Addie was united in marriage to Mr. Philip DEWITTE of Fredonia, Kans. Rev. Hughes of the Methodist church performed the ceremony. The groom is the son of Mrs. Bertha Dewitte of Fredonia, but has been employed here with the H.C. Dryden Produce Co. for the past few months. The bride is well known in Harper, having attended the Harper schools where she has made many friends. Following the wedding a delicious two-course dinner was served to the immediate family and the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. J.E. WALKER of Attica, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben WALKER, of Fairview, Okla., and Miss Virginia WALKER. Mr. and Mrs. Walker will make their home in Harper.

    3. The Harper Advocate Harper County Thursday September 14, 1928 Allie Alberta Freeman Died Friday, Sept. 7th. The entire community was grieved to learn of the untimely death of Allie Alberta FREEMAN which occurred at her home near Danville last Friday, Sept. 7. The deceased had been in ill health for the past seven years. Septic throat trouble was given as teh immediate cause of her death. During her short span of life of 22 years, 11 months and 22 days she had endeared herself to many and especially members of her immediate family who had cared for her during her illness during which time she suffered patiently. She lived as the Master wished and was prepared for her heavenly home when he called. The deceased was born at Binger, Okla., Sept. 16, 1905 and departed this life, Sept. 7, 1928. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jennie Freeman, two sisters, Mrs. Ed WILLIAMS, Idahome, Idaho, and Mrs. Geo BOATRIGHT, and three brothers, Olvier, Jesse and John. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Freeport, Sunday, Sept. 9th, at 2:00 p.m. Interment was made in the Freeport cemetery.

    3. The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday June 5, 1880 On Wednesday evening, June 2, there was a gathering of a few friends at the house of Hon. L.H. LANE to witness the joining in wedlock of Mr. J.W. SHIRLEY to Miss Frank A. LANE. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. D.W. CAMERON. The bride and groom left on the south going train at 9:16 p.m., and will spend a week of travel when they will return to Prescott where they intend to reside.

The La Cygne Weekly Journal Linn County Saturday May 29, 1880 A concert, to consist of vocal and instrumental music, will be held next Monday evening at the Presbyterian church in this city, in which home talent will be assisted by Miss Zeline MANTEY, of Chicago, a professional violinist of great ability, and Miss ARBUCKLE, of Council Grove, this State, who is acknowledged as one of the finest pianists of which Kansas can boast. The entertainment promises to be one of pleasure and profit. Admission, 25 cents; reserved seats, 35 cents; children, 15 cents.

    3. The Washington Register Washington County Thursday January 14, 1904 It is with sincere regret that we announce the death of M.E. WHEELER, the overseer of the county poor farm. The deceased was born at Fort Scott, Kan., November 19, 1871, and died January 8, 1904, being thirty-two years, one month and nineteen days, of typhoid fever. He was married to Miss Florence DEPEW, the daughter of Thomas and Mrs. Depew, January 12, 1898. The funeral services were held Sunday, January 10, at the Lutheran church at Greenleaf and the remains were interred in Maplewood cemetery near the above names place. While his death had been anticipated for a few days yet it comes with much saddness, the deceased leaves a wife, parents, and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his apparent untimely death and who sincerely sympathize with the widow in this her sudden bereavement.

The Washington Register Washington County Thursday January 14, 1904 Clara Belle HAWORTH, daughter of John and Louise Haworth, was born January 8, 1865 and died January 9, 1904, aged thirty-nine years and one day. She wa married to Asa DARBY September 2, 1887. Three children were born to this union. At the age of sixteen she was converted, having been brought up in the society of friends. In 1895 she united with the M.E. church at Morrowville and remained to the end a devoted, consistent, and faithful member. Mrs. Darby had been sick about two years and was confined to her home for the past three months. She was patient in her sufferings and cheerful to the last. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Morrowville, Sunday, at three p.m., conducted by Rev. E.O. JOHNSON. The funeral sermon was preached from Hebrews 6:18-19. A large number of sympathizing friends were present to show their love and respect.

    3. The Washington Register Washington County Thursay January 7, 1904 The 6-year-old daughter of Perry LAW a Santa Fe employe of Topeka was burned to death last week. Her dress caught on fire from the kitchen stove.

    3. The Washington Republican-Register Washington County Friday June 22, 1906 Hettie M. RAPLEE was born June 29th, 1830, in Starkey, Yates County, N.Y. She united in marriage to Joseph Raplee March 29, 1846, and died at the home of her son, Byron Raplee, in this city June 21st, 1906, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 21 days. Three children were born to her of which only one survives her. She moved with her husband from New York state to Michigan in 1873 and came to Kansas in 1880 and to Washington in 1884, where hse has since resided. The funeral services were conducted from the home of her son and were in charge of Rev. Clardy assisted by Dr. Hageman. She had been a sufferer from dropsy for quite a while and everything that kind and loving hands could do was done for her and her last moments made as comfortable as it was possible to make them. The Register extends the sympathy of the entire community to the family.
