The Washington Register Washington County Thursday December 22, 1904 Richard EMMONS, the five year old and only son of J.S. and Eliza Emmons of this city, died Sunday morning of diptheria. The little sufferer was only sick one week when he was called to leave his indulgent parents and loving sisters, who have the consolation in their sad and sudden bereavement that "all is well with the child." The remains were interred, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with prayer at the grave by Dr. Geo. Hageman, in the Dunkard cemetery, east of this city. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
The Washington Register Washington County Thursday December 15, 1904 Enid Rella, the two months old daughter of Charles and Blanche SMITH, died Saturday, December 10, of pneumonia. The funeral was held at the Lowe Center school house, Sunday, at two o'clock p.m., Rev. Lodwig and Rev. Shook officiating. Dear parents, be comforted, for as Rev. The Washington Register Washington County Thursday December 8, 1904 Mrs. Mary E. PURCELL was born Dec. 13, 1843, in Jefferson county, N.Y., and was married to John Purcell in 1864, who has been dead for 14 years. They removed to this county in 1869 and have since resided in Washington and Clay counties. One child was born to them but died in early life. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. A.H. FOOTE and Mrs. R. ZIMMERMAN of this city and of C.E. SWEET of Concordia, and died at the residence of A.H. Foote, Dec. 7. The remains were taken to Clay Center for burial, where her husband and daughter were buried. The bereaved have the sympathy of all.
The Washington Register Washington County Thursday December 1, 1904 Wm. E. L. Smith. Wm. E.L. SMITH was born August 16, 1823, in Piqua county, Ohio, married January 12, 1854, to Mrs. Martha TANSEL at Montgomery county, Indiana. Four children were born to this union, two sons and two daughters. They lived in Missouri for some years and afterwards moved to Kansas where he spent his last days. He united with the Presbyterian church about fifty years ago but had his membership with the Methodist church during the last twenty-eight years of his life. He served through the entire service of the Mexican war, and also belonged to the Home Guards of the Civil ar. He was a loving companion, kind father and good neighbor. He died November 26, 1904, at the age of eighty-one years, three months and two days. His aged companion, four children, and three step children, A. Tansel, Sparks, Ok., Mrs. Albertine MYERS of this city and Mrs. May Campbell, Grand Junction, Colo., and many friends are left to mourn his loss. His children are Mrs. Geo. COLEMAN, Beloit, Kan., W.H. SMITH of this city, Mrs. R.L. CHRISTIAN, Clyde, Kan., and Elmer E. SMITH, city. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church by the writer at one o'clock, November 27, 1904. He was laid to rest in the Washington cemetery. Albert L. Young.

Burial in Rochester cemetery. William H. HENTHRON, 75 years old, died this morning at his home, 1421 North Harrison street. He was a member of the G.A.R. and the Red Men. The Topeka Daily State Journal Tuesday May 28, 1918 Aged Grocer Is Dead. M.J. Fitzgerald Had Been in Business Here for Twenty-Eight Years. M.J. FITZGERALD, prominent Topeka groceryman, died this morning at his home, 327 Tyler street. He was 60 years old, and had been a resident and property owner in Topeka for twenty-eight years. Fitzgerald was born in St. Louis, Mo., November 10, 1858, and moved to Topeka in 1882. He was a machinist by trade and during the first few years of his life in Topeka he worked at this. In 1890 he entered the grocery business with a man named Lannan, and for sixteen years the firm of Fitzgerald & Lannan on East Fourth street was rated among the city's foremost grocery concerns. About twelve years ago Fitzgerald withdrew from the Fitzgerald & Lannan company and opened another store at 300 Kansas avenue. Fitzgerald was operting this store at the time of his death. M.J. Fitzgerald married Miss Katherine SLAVIN, a Topeka girl, in 1891. He is survived by his widow, and by two children, Gertrude and Mary Fitzgerald, both of Topeka, and by two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Guilfoyl and Mrs. Nell Fitzgerald, both of St. Marys. Funeral announcements will be made later.

The Washington Register Washington County Thursday November 24, 1904 Fannie Ellen, daughter of Niel and Alice BIRDSLEY, was born February 18, 1894, and died November 19, 1904. Her death was sudden and therefore unexpected. Fannie was a good child and the parents have the consolation of our Savior who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such ins the kingdom of heaven." Funeral services wre held at the Silver Cliff M.E. church by Rev. Leeper Sunday at 2 p.m., where a large crowd of neighbors and friends assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed and to extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Topeka Daily State Journal Monday May 27, 1918 Mrs. Menger Is Dead. Widow of Well Known Pioneer Minister Was in Quantrell Raid. Mrs. Sophia MENGER, widow of the late Rev. H.M. Menger, one of the best known pioneer preachers of the Methodist Episcopal church, died Saturday night at her home, 721 Connecticut street, Lawrence, aged 85 years. A number of Topekans will attend the funeral at Lawrene Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Menger is survived by four daughters and two son, the oldest daughter being Mrs. A.J. ROSS of Lawrence.

The Washington Register Washington County Thursday November 10, 1904 Dr. N.M. SMITH was born in Lake county, Ohio in 1842, and was at the time of his death 62 years and nearly six months old. In 1862 he enlisted in the 105th Ohio infantry and served as a valiant soldier until the close of the war of the rebellion. After the war he removed to Michigan and subsequently to Minnesota, from which state he came here in 1876 where he has since resided, practicing his profession. He had several admirable attributes being generous to those in need and especially kind and indulgent to his family. His wife, who was, previous to her marriage with hime, Miss Ellen F. CASE, still survives him; also three children, Mrs. Blanche DARBY, Dr. H.D. SMITH, and Ora SMITH remain to mourn his loss. The incident surrounding his death are deplorable and as we stated in the prior issue of the Register the funeral was attended by a large number of citizens of the city and couty and the remains were interred in the city cemetery.
