The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday March 2, 1922 Laura Evelyn STEWARD was born on June 4, 1873, in Jackson county, Kan. and was married to R.I. ELLIS March 7, 1906 in Topeka, Kan. To this union were born two sons, Virgil and Howard. Howard was called home June 1920. Mrs. Ellis passed away on February 16, 1922, at her home near Perry, Kans. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and son, Virgil age 13. She was a member of the Christian church in North Topeka, Kan. The last services were held at the family home near Perry, conducted by her friends and former pastor, Rev. Zimmerman. Her neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Dooley sang three consoling hymns. She was laid to rest in Perry cemetery by the side of her little son, Howard. One sister and six brothers also survive, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday March 2, 1922 McKinsey--Brown. Two of Holton's young people were made one when on Tuesday afternoon, February 28th, at the Evangelical parsonage, Albert G. BROWN and Gladys Irene McKINSEY were united in marriage. The ceremony took place at 4 o'clock with Rev. G.F. Barthel officiating. Both parties have grown up at this place and are well and favorably known. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman McKinsey. For the past five years she has been in the employ of the American Telephone Co., and in that position formed a wife acquaintance. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Brown. He is at present engaged in the operating of the Holton Bus Line. Their many friends unite in wishing them a life of unbroken happiness. They will be at home at 515 Ohio.

The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday February 23, 1922 Little Philip, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. George DECK had been sick for about two weeks with influenza. All that loving hands could do, and medical skill could do was done without avail. God in His infinite wisdom knew best and took him to Himself, at the age of about ten years. The funeral was held at the home Saturday at 2 p.m., interment in the Circleville cemetery. Little Philip leaves his parents, three brothers and one sister to mourn his loss. (Circleville.)
The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday February 23, 1922 Robert Stauffer COLE, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Cole, died Saturday of pneumonia. He was born March 11, 1921 and died February 18, 1922, at the age of about 11 months. He leaves his parents, two sisters, Edith and Corrine to mourn his early departure. The funeral was held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Hamm, singing by Macle Pool and Isabel Abel. Interment in Circleville cemetery.
The Holton Signal Jackson County February 23, 1922 Shoff--Jensen. Dewy SHOFF, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Shoff of Holton and Miss Esther JENSEN of Topeka were married in Topeka October 7, 1921. Dewey is a painter employed by the Santa Fe.
The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday February 23, 1922 Young--Johnson. At ten o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of Mrs. C.D. Lueck, at Netawaka, Mr. Elmer JOHNSON and Miss Alma YOUNG were united in marriage by Rev. Sisney, pastor of the M.E. church. B.E. Canfield sang, "I Love You Truly." A delicious wedding breakfast was served to the guests which included Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Lueck and family, Leland Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Albright and daughter, Vivian, Miss Esmer GRANGER of Topeka; and Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Canfield of Holton. The rooms were profusely decorated with baskets of pink and white sweet peas. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson left at 12 o'clock for a few days visit in Kansas City, after which they will be at home in Netawaka, Kans.

The Holton Signal Jackson County Thursday February 23, 1922 Burns Fatal To Arrington Boy. Ivan KENNEDY, 13 year old son of Mrs. Charles ANDERSON, southwest of Arrington, died Sudnay afternoon from burns suffered about 11 o'clock that morning, when he threw a lighted match into a gasoline barrel. Ivan had been told that if a lighted match were thrown into a empty barrel it would go out. He did not know the barrel contained two gallons of gasoline. All his clothing was burned from his body except his shoes. Mrs. Anderson was severely burned in an attempt to extinguish the flames. The boy lived with his mother and step father on the C.P. Humphrey farm one mile west and one south of Arrington.

The Brewster Gazette Thomas County Thursday October 2, 1890 Struck By Lightening. Last Friday afternoon, during a thunderstorm, near Muldrow, the 12 year old daughter and a 5 year old son of Mr. FORD, were on their way home from school. A flash of lightening struck and killed the girl, and knocked the little boy down. The boy got up and tried to get his sister to go home with him, not realizing she was dead. He then went home and told his parents that his sister was laying in the road and would not get up. The father went and found his daughter dead. The funeral was held last Sunday.

The Holton Weekly Signal Jackson County Wednesday December 24, 1890 The death of the estimable, noble and devoted wife of Robert GILLIS, of North Cedar, occurred on Sunday last. The funeral took place yesterday. At this time The Signal is not in possession of the facts in regard to her life, sickness and death. We only know that she and her husband have long lived in that community and were highly respected by all.

The Holton Weekly Signal Jackson County December 17, 1890 E.M. STREET and Miss Effie A. GAMBLE, both of St. Joseph, Mo., arrived at the Josephine Hotel Saturday afternoon. After a visit to Judge Wilson to procure a license, they were united in marriage by Rev. Mr. Brown, the Baptist minister. Mr. Street is a baggage master on the main line of the Rock Island. Mr. and Mrs. Street stopped at the Josephine until Sunday afternoon when they left for Kansas City.
