So I asked him to help on this. He says it is likely: Befiehl dem HERRN deine Wege und hoffe auf ihn -- which is the first part of Psalms 37:5. In the King James version of the Bible, this has been translated as: Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him... An alternate translation would be "Commit thy way unto the LORD; hope also in him..." Hoffe is generally translated as hope.
