Uwnn Thr diesen Brief bekommen habt, so schreibt uns bitte (word here not legiable) antrovort. Jur heute (word not legiable) ich schliexben (not sure of the xb) seit necht (or) recht herzlich gegeribt (not sure of the b) von Vati, Mutti, Monika, Frilz, Harry und Lieselotte, Hoffentlich konnl en or er meine Schr! ift lesen. Ein frokes und gesundes Osterfest wunschen wir Euch noch alle.
OK. Well, with the illegible words missing, she can't give an exact translation, but my daughter read to me gist of the letter and it basically is a "hi, how are you, we are fine" type of letter. It mentions the fact that apparently the recipient did not receive an earlier letter written a year ago because they did not hear back from them. From a family history perspective, it says April 1st is mother's birthday -- probably Monika's mother. There is also a reference to "little Fritz" and Harry, probably Monika's younger brothers. The recipient's family apparently has a child named Daniel and they are asking if he has a girlfriend yet. They also talk about the weather being cool. My daughter thinks that the author is probably a girl named Monika since it is signed, from Father, Mother, Monika, Fritz, Harry and Lieselotte (von Vati, Mutti, Monika, Frilz [Fritz], Harry und Lieselotte). We are familiar with Liesel as a girl's name, but have never heard of Lieselotte. They also wish them a happy Easter. That's about all she can get out of it as is. My daughter said that she thinks that she could read it all -- including those things that are illegible to you if she could see a scan or a photocopy. She also said that if she can't, she is certain that her German professor can. So there you go. My daughter also mentioned that many universities and public libraries have scanners, so you might give that a try.
