Hello All - I like Sandy's idea that we all post our lineage here. I'm sure that collectively we have a wealth of information about the Kornegay family and that by sharing it in this forum, we'll all greatly benefit in the acquisition of the knowledge we so diligently seek. If we all do this, I believe that we will be able to piece the story together in a way that has never been done before. As an introduction, let me tell you a little bit about myself and my line of the Kornegay family. My mother was a Kornegay, and was born in Duplin County. Her father, Nicodemus (Nick) died in the flu epidemic in the winter of 1933, and she had limited contact with the rest of the existing family. We still try to go to the reunions, but that particular group of Kornegays only makes claim to being descendants of Daniel Kornegay (1819-1894) and his wife Martha Jane Dail (1826-1904). But I, of course, am interested in EVERYTHING about the family. I was born in Wayne County, NC but now live in Hampton, VA. Here's my lineage: 1. John George Kornegay (Sandy just shared what she had about him) 2. George Kornegay (dca 1700 - Nov 17, 1773) - see below 3. William Kornegay (unk - 1812) - his wife was Elizabeth Outlaw, I have a copy of her will. For those of us from this line, I have extensive info on the Outlaw family 4. Isaac Kornegay (1766 - 1838) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Harget in 1832. Isaac's wife was Hester Harget; and for those of us that track from this line, we can trace back to one of the original Jamestown settlers Thomas Savage. 5. Harget Kornegay (1793 - 1875) - I found Harget's will in the Duplin County courthouse and transcribed it, also a deed by which he gave land to his son Daniel. In the 1860 Federal Census, Harget listed 11 slaves. His wife was Susanna Simmons, descendant of a Swiss family that came over to New Bern with the von Graffenreidt expedition. I traced her line way back into the late 1500's. 6. Daniel Kornegay (1819 - 1894) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Nicodemus 7. Nicodemus Kornegay (1862 - 1933) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Nick 8. Nick Kornegay (1899 - 1933) 9. Alice Kornegay (1932 - ) 10. Jerry Quinn (1951 - ) To get the information ball rolling, here's a transcript of George Kornegay's will. I'm sure that most of you have already seen this, but for any that haven't - read on! I'll post other stuff as requested. --------------------------------------------------------------> Copy of the original will of George Kornegay, dated 21 NOV 1773 proved 29 NOV 1773 North Carolina, Craven County IN THE NAME OF GOD - AMEN I, George Kornegay of the county and province aforesaid - Planter- being weak and low in body but sound in mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this life, do make and ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
