    3. Matt, I want to join you in affirming the purely hypothetical nature of the Gna:gi/Gnaegy research. I think it was David Kornegay of Seville, Spain, who introduced me to the idea about two years ago. I'm not sure of the origin of that hypothesis, however, David faxed me a typed, one page excerpt from what appears to be THE PAPERS OF ALBERT TIMOTHY OUTLAW, accounting the evolution of the KORNEGAY name to scribal error. I agree that is a likely scenario, however, I would feel more comfortable with some empirical evidence. I am also concerned about the weight of credibility given in various Kornegay family histories to the John George HORNIGH reference. The late Charles Kornegay included in his KORNEGAY HISTORY (1710-1986) a typed reproduction of a 1709 English immigration list referring to John George Hornigh and family. Does anyone know who researched that document and the availablility of evidence to support the conclusion that John George is in fact the father of George I? That excerpt contains the only mention I have found to the mysterious "Talsen". The structure of the sentence containing the term is interesting: "...a list of all the poor Germans lately come over from the Palainate into this Kingdom Talsen in St. Catherines." I have done some web research on that text and can find nothing so far about Talsen. I have discovered references in other documents to St. Catherines House, the principal repository of immigration records in London in the early 18th century. I would appreciate any insight anyone has into this critially important document. I will be in London in mid-September and would love to follow up on any leads. The Mexico connection through Robert Kornegay is particularly interesting to me--for more reasons than the name. I recently bought some land in East Texas (Smith County) that was given to a group of Cherokee Indians by Sam Houston for their bravery in *liberating* the Republic of Texas from Mexico. The land was later *liberated* (about 800 Cherokee men, women and children were massacred) by ex-Confederate soldiers after Texas became a State. I wonder if a Kornegay may have been involved. This family gets more interesting with each new posting!
