From today's Goldsboro New Argus (North Carolina) Kornegay wins Jaycee DSA award By Staff Writer BONNIE EDWARDS MOUNT OLIVE -- Kevin Kornegay was presented the 2000 Distinguished Service Award by the Mount Olive Jaycees for his work on the Kids World playground, a $133,000 community project built by hundreds of local volunteers. Kornegay said he wasn't expecting anything like that when he went to the Southern Wayne Country Club on Thursday night to attend the Jaycees' annual banquet. He received the award from last year's recipient, Hervy B. Kornegay Jr., who praised his cousin's work to raise the $133,000 needed for the playground. Kevin Kornegay also donated free lodging for the visiting consultants at the Sleep Inn motel he manages. He coordinated many volunteers and worked at the playground construction site all day, every day of the project. "It's been an extremely exciting year for the town of Mount Olive and all of us," Kevin Kornegay said. "I think it really goes to show what we're capable of doing when we work together."
