Hello Everyone - I am Benny Huff. I live in Henderson, County, Texas. Twenty years ago I did some genealogy research on the Kornegays. I have retired and am just now continuing my research. My g-g-grandfather was David Smith Kornegay. He migrated to Texas in 1830 from Jones County, North Carolina. He was the son of Robert and Letetia Kornegay. I made the connection to Jones County through records in an old family bible. I have traced him back to George Kornegay. In the 1970s I visited Jones County, North Carolina and got copies of wills, etc. from George down to David S. I don't have a lot of information but if I can help anyone please let me know. I do have lots of knowledge on David Smith. He was in the battle of San Jacinto, was the first county clerk of Fayette County, Tx. He was in Dawson's Massacre near San Antonio and spent time in a prison in Mexico before escaping.
Benny, I think your little info is very interesting. I would like to know more about what info you have on the Kornegay family. My husband was related to the Kornegay family through Hester E. Kornegay of Duplin Co, N. C. I live in Duplin Co, NC on what was orginial Kornegay land grant. I live within 1/2 mile from where some of the older Kornegay members are buried. Hope to hear from you.
