    3. Hi Richard, Welcome to the list. BTW who was James Claudius Williams parents? Where is Godwin near? I agree-I believe the Kornegay name most likely is a derivative of GNAGI. Perhaps we could do DNA comparison if we should find a person with that surname in America or Switzerland.     3. Godwin is in Cumberland County along U.S. Highway 301 - about eight miles south of Dunn, which is in Harnett County. Claud and Laura actually lived about two miles south of Godwin. One of their grandsons still lives in a house on the same site that their house was on, about 100 yards off U.S. 301. The parents of James Claudius Williams (known as Claud) were John Williams (1830-1892) and Caroline Royal Chesnutt (1832-1917), natives of Dismal Township, Sampson County, who moved from that area to the aforementioned property soon in the early 1850s. The property was then owned by John's father, John Carouth Williams (1808-1896) of Dismal Township. An interesting side note that I wonder if the Kornegays are aware of. I already mentioned that my grandfather, Robert Wesley Williams, was a son of Claud and Laura (Kornegay) Williams. Claud and Laura's oldest son, David Marshall Williams (1900-1975), known as Carbine Williams, was one of the designers of the M1 Carbine used by the U.S. Army during World War II. The DNA test might be a good idea. We would need a male Kornegay and a male Gnagi to compare Y-chromosomes. But it would be best to get an idea of what area our Kornegay/Gnagi ancestor came from first. I don't know how common a name Gnagi is, but we can't assume that all of them are related.
