Robert: I enjoyed your nice descripted letter to Gayle about your hometown of Goldsboro. I think I may have received a letter in 1973 from one of your relatives. She had seen my name in the exchange section of a NC Genealogical Reference. She was hoping to find information to enable her grand-daughter to join the children's division of the DAR. She said that her husband was raised in Mt. Olive, NC and is the son of Robert Kornegay 1871-1931; the grandson of Caleb Kornegay 1825-1889 and great grandson of John Kornegay 1798-1887, she went on to say; " The next generation is the one I have not yet found since I have been unable to locate John's father. John was a Baptist minister, built his own church and gave the land for it in 1827. It burned, destroying all of the records. It was called "North Creek, but named North East" when it was rebuilt on land (1818) his heirs gave, one year after his death." She signed her letter Elizabeth Kornegay (Miss Kelly) I was unable to help her at the time, I could not figure who they were. I think that I found out later that John was s/o Martin; s/o Jacob. Is that correct? I also am wondering what she meant about "when it was rebuilt on land (1818) his heirs gave. He died in 1887; can you explain what she may have ment by the date 1818? A couple of years ago someone sent me a copy of the item in a Heritage Book about CALEB FOREMAN RANDOLPH KORNEGAY AND DESCENDANTS by Margaret Tolson which finally helped me figure some of it out and also with the help of Matt. Best wishes from another of Jacob's descendants. Pat Hoffman
