Well, I just looked at the copy sent to myself of my posting "Founding of New Bern" and found that all the italics were lost in the transfer. The process retained the umlauts (an uncommon need) but eliminated the italics (a very useful function)...go figure! Because of this, the reader will not be able to tell when I was quoting verbatim (which was in italics) and when the words are my paraphrase or summary. Sorry about that. Matt
