Hi all, I got this response back from Rhonda to my questions to her for her sources for the name Hans Jurg Gnagi. Thought you would all like to read it too. The choice of my use of Hans Jurg Gnagi given to me by Matt Ward was simply that the pronunciation most closely resembled the current pronunciation of Kornegay. The other names that I have are Hornigh by John Martin Oates, Jr. and Krenig by Betty Jean Heathcock. A fourth source, Charles E. Boyd used the spelling Knege which most closely resembles Gnagi. I have not come across any information that I find definitive on the original name and so my use of Gnagi is purely by choice. I would love to get my hands on some of the passenger lists of deGraffenreid's ships so that I could look first hand at the various choices. The above mentioned Charles Boyd did extensive research in the field of genealogy and upon his death bequeathed his papers to his alma mater, the Univ. of Alabama. As I live just a short distance away I plan to visit the University and look through his papers first hand. Sorry that I could not be of any help. Rhonda Bush > >
