I just want to say thank you very much for your prayers and concern for each of you that prayed for me during my recent hospital stay. I finally have a diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation, which they are trying to control with medication. It seems to be working, however, I am allergic to one of the two medications they gave me. This is just a friendly reminder for all to please quote something from a previous post when answering it or adding a response to it. Otherwise, many of us reading your post don't know what you are talking about. For example, if your post only says, "she was the second wife." we might erroneously conclude you were referring to someone in the most recent post, but if another post just happened to get posted between the one you were responding to and your latest, it will cause the confusion, especially if all recent posts had the same subject title, but even if they don't. If you are sure it will be clear to the one to whom you were responding, don't forget there are dozens of others who receive the mailing who may be confused by it, and you may cause one or more of them to record something erroneously that will be perpetuated. If your response is intended for one person only, and you don't care to clarify it for the rest, send it as personal email instead of posting to the list-serve. Matt Ward

Nov 6, 1802 >> Well, I don't know, I have the same document that you have but I have the date as Nov. 16 not 6. One place I got that date is from the book " Kinfolks Of Wayne County North Carolina 1793-1832" by Joseph W. Watson. Perhaps Mr. Watson made a mistake on the date, I just don't know. In my notes: Johnson County Marriage bonds p. 233: Willis WIGGINS married MOURNING STEPHENS Dec. 17, 1779, Jacob STEPHENS Bondsman and witness. Willis WIGGINS was deceased before March 28th, 1801. Many years ago I was told that Mourning was probably a STEVENS , possible dau of Edward STEVENS who left a will Johnson Co NC Dec Court 1751. Mourning married a STEPHENS/STEVENS and had a daughter Susannah STEVENS who married John CROW and that her dau Elizabeth WIGGINS married Jacob KORNEGAY s/o of George II. A death date of 30 Aug 1815 for Mourning KORNEGAY was entered in Bible of John CROW Jr.. Also in 1815 Mourning KORNEGAY made a deed of gift to her two granddaughters, Mourning CROW, daughter of John CROW and Susannah his wife, of South Carolina, and Mourning STEVENS, daughter of Needham STEVENS and Peggy, his wife, of the State of Georgia, witnessed by H. STEVENS, Feb 11, 1815. In Deed Book 7 Wayne Co NC: George KORNEGAY and Mourning KORNEGAY deed of gift to "my" son-in-law, John CROW, of Darlington District, South Carolina, Jan 3, 1804, I do not have proof that Mourning was a STEVENS who married a STEVENS, I just know that her daughter Susannah was a STEVENS and that STEVENS seemed to be around to witness things for Mourning. This is not my line either so I have not worked on this too hard. Pat Hoffman

Hi Patty and Gayle, Re: to your recent post about her...Does that now leave us with no maiden name for her??? I now have her entered as Mourning_____? [aka widow of Willis Wiggins]. I removed her as dtr of Edward and wife. Gayle, is there any possibility or does the bible records have any indication that the entry was made by a later date/descendant and perhaps they assumed Susannah was the dtr of a Stevens and this same Mourning that m: Geo. Kornegay? Thence assumed also that Susannah Stevens & Elizabeth Wiggins were half sisters??? And does that now leave the possibility that this Mr. Stevens was s.o. Edward and wife [whatever I had]? Just a thought...... Anyway, I got tired of working with it and decided not to make all of the entries since Mourning & George had no children, etc. and I just put your [Patty & Gayle] messages in her Notes Section in case in the future a descendant of Jacob & Elizabeth Wiggins Kornegay needs the info. It not my line anyway. One tiny insignificant....dates on following Pre-nup. Patty you have George & Mourning's marriage date Sept. 16, 1802 [date it was prepared?] I have Nov 6, 1802 [the date it was registered?]. Which is correct? Prenuptial agreement [or Marriage Contract] for George Kornegay II and Mourning Stevens: Wayne County, N C. Deed Book 7 page 321 State of N. C. , Wayne County. To all to whom these presents shall come, greetings. Know ye that I George Kornegay of the aforesaid State and County of Duplin and Mourning Wiggins of said State and County of Wayne have this day entered and agreed upon a marriage contract in manner and form following, to wit,. That we the said George and Mourning shall or may at either of our deaths or departure from time to enternity, give and dispose of our property both real and personal and the increase thereof as either of us shall think proper and if either of us die or decease without a will or some instrument of writing so as to convey our property as above mentioned, suitable to our notions, then our said property shall return to our children. Viz, the said George Kornegay's property shall return to his children and the said Mourning Wiggins' property shall return to her children. In Testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this 16th day of Sept 1802. Witness: Isaac Bizzell, Bold Robin (B. R. ) Hood. Signed: George Kornegay (Seal) + Mourning Wiggins (Seal). Reg. Nov 6, 1802 FWIW - John Martin Oates, Jr.'s book titled Roots, Seeds, and Other Things, Vol II George Kornegay married 11-6-1802 in Wayne County, Mourning Wiggins, widow of Willis Wiggins. Also, Brøderbund WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #1036 & Master980818.FTW have 11/6/1802. Good hearing from both of you. Kathlynn
