I sure wish i could go to NC. and do some research. It's hard to do it on line or by mail. Expensive too. Do you have any Robeson Co. kin? I ask Rena for some pictures of her Dad and mom. She either doesn't know how to put them on line or doesn't have the time. I keep hoping someone will have a picture of my grandmother Mary Magdeline Kornegay. I would like to see what that side of the family looks like. Keep in touch. Hi Barbara Again. I copied some of this info you were asking about. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Maxwell. Margaret and John Rouse named their son Richard Rouse Eswick. He was living in 1750 and was dead and buried on the 24 Feb. 1754 at Saint James on Barbados. Another Rouse listed on Barbados is John Edward Rouse in Colloneis Company 1679. This article was in HOTTEN'S PERSONS FROM GREAT BRITIAN To AMERICA 1600-1780. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ruth R. Patty, There is a collection of papers, actually papers similar to DAR membership papers, along with letters written by various descendents. These papers can be found in the City of Kinston library, and some are at Lenoir Community College. They may be looked up under the name of "The Hyatt Collection." I have accessed them several times, and have found them to be very helpful. Hope this helps to answer your question. Cousins! I am unable to type much at present. While on vacation in Houston, TX in May, my feet slipped out from under me while going down some steps, I flew through the air about 6 feet and my left shoulder crashed against the side of a pick up truck parked in the driveway. As a result my shoulder was crushed and dislocated and the humerus broken in two places, This required surgery to implant a prothesis. I started physical therapy today but it may be a long slow process. I am happy that it was left arm not the right but it is difficult to type with one hand. Thus the reason for my being so brief in my last post. Adding to my last note the article said " The genealogical data will begin running in the January issue of Carolina and The Southern Cross, Kinston, N.C. Subscription price is $1.00. " I wonder if this came to pass and if this publication is in some Library today? Pay Hoffman
In 1914 a group met in Kingston NC for the purpose of organizing an organization to trace the descendants of the Palatines who came with DeGraffenreid. They planned to issue certificates of membership and to erect a memorial to the Palentines of New Bern, the family names were to be placed on the memorial. They selected people to look up the linage of the following families. A geanealogist, Miss Sybil Hyatt was very interested in the project as was Senator F.M. Simmons and others. I wonder what happened to their findings. The following are the names listed in this News paper article. CROOM ISLER MOORE WALLACE SIMMONS FRANCK MILLER KINSEY HARGETT KOONCE OSMOND BROCK ERNUL BERNARD FENNER, KORNEGAY, RICHARDS, MARKET SHEETS, GRIST, WALKER, BUSIT, MORRIS, IPOCK, TEACHEY, and GARNTO are some of the names.
This is Benny Huff. Below is the list of Palatines that I referenced in my earlier message. I have a book that lists over 12,000 Palatine emigrants. I have looked for patters of names on the list below and the lists in the book and have not found anything significant. I have double checked the spelling of the names but make no guarantees. The formatting did not copy correctly when I included the text in this message and I apologize for that. The following list was taken from a book on Kinston and Lenoir Counties. COMPOSITE LIST OF PALATINES WHO SETTLED IN NORTH CAROLINA AT THE SETTLEMENT OF NEW BERN IN 1709-10 The following list is not presented as an all-inclusive one. It represents a composite group made up from several different lists of persons identifying themselves or being identified by contemporary reports as palatines. The first spelling given (where a spelling appears in the first column) represents the form as given by a German source or listaker. Other forms appear in "Colonial Records of North Carolina" and in records of Craven and adjoining counties dating back to that period. Thirty-six of the names in the first column appear on a German list described as "Namen der erften Psalzer in Nord-Carolina in den Jahren 1709 and 1710. Benny, We were going over a list of names listed on the Craven County USgenweb site...trying to find the original spelling of Kornegay since it seems that John George Hornigh supposedly died in County Wexford Ireland....would love to see the list. Thanks, Sheila
This is Benny Huff. I seem to remember some interest a few weeks ago in compiling a list of the Palatines that settled in New Bern. I was organizing some of my material today and came across two pages that I had copied from a book on Kinston and Lenoir Counties. It listed 56 Palatine families that settled in New Bern in 1709-1710. This is a composite list. However, 36 of the names came from a German list described as "Names of the first Palatines in North Carolina, as early as 1709 and 1710. These were living in the year 1714". If anyone is compiling a list let me know and I will enter these names and e-mail them.
