    3. Hi - My name is Brenda Kimble and I'm looking for information on my GGGGGGGrandparents -- George Kornegay and Mary Fisher. From the information I have, George Kornegay came over with the Palatines with his family -- who were all killed by the Indians except him. He married Mary Fisher around 1729 in Craven County, North Carolina. William Kornegay was born in 1736 and married Elizabeth Outlaw. I would appreciate any information on the Kornegay's, Fisher's, Outlaw's, and Whitfield's! Thanks for your time. Brenda Kimble dkimble@alaska.net www.alaska.net/~dkimble PO Box 1470 Valdez, AK 99686

    3. Gayle - My records show a Fanny Ann Kornegay (no dates) born to David Kornegay (son of William Kornegay and Elizabeth Outlaw) and First Name Unknown (FNU) O'Daniel. The name Charity O'Daniel certainly does ring a bell though. I'll have to search some more through my stuff until I find it. Can't really help on the second question; obviosuly they were cousins but that covers a lot of terretory - especially in Duplin County! 1. My Lineage
    2. Cassidy Quinn
    3. Hello All - I like Sandy's idea that we all post our lineage here. I'm sure that collectively we have a wealth of information about the Kornegay family and that by sharing it in this forum, we'll all greatly benefit in the acquisition of the knowledge we so diligently seek. If we all do this, I believe that we will be able to piece the story together in a way that has never been done before. As an introduction, let me tell you a little bit about myself and my line of the Kornegay family. My mother was a Kornegay, and was born in Duplin County. Her father, Nicodemus (Nick) died in the flu epidemic in the winter of 1933, and she had limited contact with the rest of the existing family. We still try to go to the reunions, but that particular group of Kornegays only makes claim to being descendants of Daniel Kornegay (1819-1894) and his wife Martha Jane Dail (1826-1904). But I, of course, am interested in EVERYTHING about the family. I was born in Wayne County, NC but now live in Hampton, VA. Here's my lineage: 1. John George Kornegay (Sandy just shared what she had about him) 2. George Kornegay (dca 1700 - Nov 17, 1773) - see below 3. William Kornegay (unk - 1812) - his wife was Elizabeth Outlaw, I have a copy of her will. For those of us from this line, I have extensive info on the Outlaw family 4. Isaac Kornegay (1766 - 1838) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Harget in 1832. Isaac's wife was Hester Harget; and for those of us that track from this line, we can trace back to one of the original Jamestown settlers Thomas Savage. 5. Harget Kornegay (1793 - 1875) - I found Harget's will in the Duplin County courthouse and transcribed it, also a deed by which he gave land to his son Daniel. In the 1860 Federal Census, Harget listed 11 slaves. His wife was Susanna Simmons, descendant of a Swiss family that came over to New Bern with the von Graffenreidt expedition. I traced her line way back into the late 1500's. 6. Daniel Kornegay (1819 - 1894) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Nicodemus 7. Nicodemus Kornegay (1862 - 1933) - I have a transcript of a deed by which he gave land to his son Nick 8. Nick Kornegay (1899 - 1933) 9. Alice Kornegay (1932 - ) 10. Jerry Quinn (1951 - ) To get the information ball rolling, here's a transcript of George Kornegay's will. I'm sure that most of you have already seen this, but for any that haven't - read on! I'll post other stuff as requested. --------------------------------------------------------------> Copy of the original will of George Kornegay, dated 21 NOV 1773 proved 29 NOV 1773 North Carolina, Craven County IN THE NAME OF GOD - AMEN I, George Kornegay of the county and province aforesaid - Planter- being weak and low in body but sound in mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this life, do make and ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Also I give to my wife the third part of my crop now standing for her support of my two children. I give to my wife one linen wheel and all household goods which were her own before, to be and remain her property, also my riding horse named Cromwell to her, her heirs and assigns forever. I give to my son Elijah three hundred acres of land lying in Dobbs County upon Falling Creek on the southwest side of Thunder Swamp and one negro girl named Rachel and the increase of her the said Rachel to be equally shared and divided between my two sons named Daniel and Elijah when of age, which negroes are to be in my wife's care and use for the benefit of schooling my said children if sufficient and that according to the conduct and judgement of my Executors hereafter named thence those negroes to be the property of my two sons Daniel and Elijah then and their heirs and assigns forever. It is my will and desire that my Executors may and shall purchase one negro wench out of my estate to the best advantage in every way for the use and benefit of my two sons Daniel and Elijah to have an equal share in the increase when of age to them and their heirs and assigns forever. I give to my son Elijah six cows and calves with the increase to him and his heirs and assigns forever. It is my desire that the cattle which I have given to my two sons Daniel and Elijah that my Executors may sell them and the money arising may be put to interest, which interest shall be for the benefit in raising and schooling my two sons Daniel and Elijah - keep them and make good the principle. I give and bequeth to my oldest son John Kornegay two hundred acres of land including the houses and a part of the plantation whereon I now live to be divided by a direct line from the river to the back line; and four hundred acres of land whereon my son John now lives, it being part of my old patent, and three negroes named Tom, Will, and Ben, fifty acres of land in the fork of Beaverdam and all the cattle, horses, and mares that are in his proper mark, or that hath been called his own, and three ewes and a ram to him the said John Kornegay his heirs and assigns forever. I give to my son George Kornegay one hundred and fifty acres of land in the fork of Beaverdam on the Northeast in Duplin County and two negroes named Boston and Pope and all the cattle and stock that are in his mark or brand to him and his heirs and assigns forever, and also three hundred and fifty acres of land on Horse Penn branch in Duplin County to him the said George his heirs and assigns forever. I give my son William Kornegay fifty acres of land lying on Buck Marsh and two negroes named Jack and Prep and all the cattle and horses that are in his mark or brand to him his heirs and assigns forever. I give my daughter Mary DeBruhl all the cattle and horses that are in her mark or brand to her, her heirs and assigns forever. I give to my sons John and David the great distill which is now on my plantation for their use forever. I give to my son Joseph Kornegay five hundred acres of land in three patents on the northeast of Cape Fear joining Johnson's line and two negroes named Toney and Peter and a part of my stock not which before to be equally divided between my three sons Joseph, Abraham, and David and if said Joseph does not return home within three years, then my sons Abraham and David shall have the part my son Joseph's to be divided by my Executors to them the said Abraham and David to be their property and their heirs and assigns forever. It is my will that my sons John, Jacob, and George may be and are appointed my trustees and guardians for my two sons Daniel and Elijah and that they may bind them by Indentures to some Tradesman according to the best of their judgement and consent of my wife according to law. I lastly nominate and appoint my sons John, Jacob, and George Kornegay my Executors of this my last will and testament and do hereby utterly disallow, disannul, and make void all and every other will and legacies and bequests hertofore made and done, willed bequests satisfying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of November 1773. /s/ George Kornegay His George (G.K.) Member - Reformed Church. Husbandman and Winedresser. Sailed for America in Jan. 1710 with a group sponsored by Baron Christopher De Graffenreid and settled in Craven County, N.C., near the present city of New Bern. 9-22-1711 - the Tuscarorra Indians attacked and killed about 120 settlers - men, women and children. The only survivor of the Kornegay family was son George. N.C. State Archives - Craven County Court Minutes, 1712-1713. Aug. 1713 - Disposition of Orphans. Jacob Miller (or Muller) took into his care two orphans and promised to teach them to read and write and take care of them until 21 years of age and to have them taught a carpenters trade. These orphans were George Kornegay and George Koonce. (George Koonce, Craven County Will, Prob. CA. 1772). I choose to believe that George Kornegay was the oldest son, which might have contributed to his survival. Therefore, I have assigned CA 1700 as his birth year. Note: it was during this same massacre that Charles Cogdell and my ancestor, George Cogdell lost their father. I have no known Kornegay lineage. [J.M.O.]. 3. Good morning everyone! My name is Sandra Kornegay Rhodes and I am the list-owner for the Kornegay list. This list is brand new and doesn't have a lot of traffic. I would guess it is because the Kornegay name is somewhat rare. Since I've been on the internet I have come into contact with a number of people who are researching the Kornegay name. One of these persons (a member on this list) put me in contact with a man who had published a book titled "John George Kornegay". There were only five left when I bought mine and now they are all gone. He doesn't plan to make another printing. He did tell a cousin of mine that I could copy information from the book. Jerry that is where I got the information of the beginning of the Kornegays in America. I had found similar information in the Houston Genealogical Library but this book has some dates. I invite everyone to post their line if they know it. Mine goes: 1. John George Kornegay 1. John George Kornegay 2. George Kornegay 2. George Kornegay 3. Jacob Kornegay 3. George Jr. 4. John Kornegay 4. Civil Kornegay 5. Miller Kornegay 5. Miller Kornegay 6. John Ward Kornegay 6. John Ward Kornegay 7. William Alfred Kornegay 7. William Alfred Kornegay 8. William Houston Kornegay 8. William Houston Kornegay 9. Sandra Kornegay Rhodes 9. Sandra Kornegay Rhodes John and Civil (there are various spellings for this name) were cousins. If anyone has any information to share with us please do whether you are a descendant or not. This list is open to everyone and we are hungry for information. Sandy Rhodes

    3. Jerry, The Kornegay lines can be very confusing. John George was the Palatine immigrant who came to America in 1710 with his wife and four children. He and his family were killed by the Tuscarorra Indians with the exception of George who was taken captive in 1711. George had 9 sons and 1 daughter. I am a descendant of his sons George Jr. and Jacob. Where does your line come in? I live in East Texas. My parents moved to Texas in the 1920's from Arkansas. My father William Houston K. was born in Ar. My line goes like this: 1. Sandra Kornegay Rhodes 2. William Houston Kornegay 3. William Alfred Kornegay 4. John Ward Kornegay 5. Miller Kornegay 6. John Kornegay - B. 1760 7. Jacob Kornegay - 1734-1796 8. George Kornegay - ca 1700-1773 9. John George Kornegay - 1670-1711 Civil daughter of George Jr. married her first cousin 4. John Kornegay so the other line looks like this: John George Kornegay George Kornegay George Kornegay Jr. Civil Kornegay Miller Kornegay John Ward Kornegay William Alfred Kornegay William Houston Kornegay Sandra Kornegay Rhodes
